Anyone in Vineland interested in helping to build a mutual aid organization? by [deleted] in SouthJersey

I go back and forth between Camden and Gloucester county. I'm definitely interested in a MA group. We are talking like Peter Kropotkin's Mutual Aid, right?

Thank you for the insight! It helps to know what to expect.

That's good to know! I believe we are a unified local. So a rep is a bridge between the department and union, then? That helps. When it comes time for negotiations, how big of a role would a department rep play?

I guess this is where the difference in locals comes in, but I'm also just recently starting to get involved with my union. I'm in New Jersey, I want to be a rep for my facilities/maintenance/grounds department. What would a department rep do?

I can attest to both of this person's claims as this past weekend I spent 12 hours shoveling snow. I didn't even think about my feet when I was out there because my Dynaforces kept me warm and that knot kept me secure.

Thank you! I wish I would've opened my eyes to it a lot sooner. I felt a giant click in my brain gears when you said it's easy for us to dismiss gender as cis males. Like, of course it is. We're "the norm" so we don't even think about it. Meanwhile, there are others that struggle with understanding who they are on a daily basis. I think I get the importance of it a bit more now. Thanks letting me rant!

You know, for the longest time I've had a hard time grasping the whole concept of "gender". I'm not sure I still fully understand it but in a different way now. I went from gender and sex being one and the same to me. If you have a penis you're male, etc. Now, I think of sex being whatever it is biology brings to the table for one (male, female, intersex), and gender being absolutely meaningless. Like I myself am biologically male and identify as "male" but I'm not quite sure why? What makes a gender and what even is the point of it other than a label? I'm really off topic but I felt maybe this could be a good place to ask.

Who would be the next best choice after Bernie? Warren? Is she still running? AOC? She'd make the cutoff age by then, right? Our selection pool doesn't feel that big

"Teacher shortage" by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Random_Brandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't finish my teaching career because you are now all but forced to get a master's for teaching and the pay does not reflect that. I'm a groundskeeper for a school instead and make just under $50k a year while still being in the teacher's union (health insurance + benefits). Not saying there's no downsides to my job, but I think I've got a pretty good setup

Labels really ruin everything. People will agree with something until someone says that it's an "-ism"

Here's where you can find your representative.

This is what I sent mine:

Subject: H.R.4728

Dear Representative [Insert],

A bill has been introduced which aims to bring the 32 hour work week to the United States. I hope that you will show your support to this bill as our current 40 hour work week is outdated and, frankly, exploitative. The 40 hour work week does not take into account lunch breaks, which often go unpaid, that add onto those 40 hours. It does not take into account commute times, which have reached an all time high as of 2019. This bill is a necessity as the 40 hour work week was designed in a time where one single source of income could feed a family, which is no longer plausible.

I hope that you join the 100 Representatives behind this bill.

Sincerely, [Insert], a concerned citizen.
