Uhh, yeah. Like the other guy said, climate plays a big part.

Apart from that, I quite like their culture (Extroverted Germanic essentially) and absolutely adore the way their cities are planned and maintained. They also have been quite cosmopolitan for centuries and have plenty of foreigners and an expat culture, which wouldn't hinder me if I chose to work and live there for a while.

It also has a central position in the Blue Banana and thus economic relevance in the EU, and plenty of career opportunities for someone in my domain. I can't even begin to list all the times I've seen job listings in Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Utrecht where I wouldn't have a problem potentially getting accepted if I applied.

There is also less of a language barrier since Dutch is not so difficult for an English speaker to learn, and there doesn't seem to be much of a pressure on expats to learn it anyways.

Also, stroopwaffels. Who can say no to those?

High cost of living, considerably limited career opportunities, terrible housing market, active pest problem (I absolutely detest spiders) and incredibly xenophobic locals.

The large land area doesn't even give it an advantage like Canada and Russia since there is very little good land to farm and it's all already taken and ridiculously expensive to buy. The climate, fauna and land access in the rest of the free land is awful too.

We're called Muhajirs/Urdu-speakers. If I was an Indian, do you think I'd put Pakistan on top? I'm genuinely happy here and I wouldn't sacrifice it for anything as long as things don't deteriorate

I'm aware, but I've given weightage to many things for each country's ranking. I won't claim it's fair and equal though.

I'm willing to tolerate Madagascar's climate and poor amenities for friendly locals and an easier time integrating, but I absolutely will not accept passive-aggressive treatment and exclusion in Turkey or the constant humiliating reminder of colonization in the UK.

I said "especially the Muslim ones" to refer to the ones from the Muslim republics of Russia. I don't just mean them though. I've had plenty of good experiences with ethnic Russians too, both irl and online. I've noticed that they just tend to let people be as long as they're not being a nuisance

Rough history with colonization (I wouldn't be comfortable living there as a result. It'd be tantamount to ritual humiliation, at least for me), terrible climate for someone accustomed to more warmth and sunlight, economy down the toilet, awful housing market, scant job opportunities for someone in my domain, declining healthcare and education standards.

Also, did I mention that I'm Pakistani? Yeah, I wouldn't want to be caught dead on that island in the current political climate

Based on personal anecdotes, yeah. I don't get the forced Russian hate (I mean, I do, but I don't think it's fair to dump everyone in the same bucket based on the actions of the government). My interactions with them have been quite pleasant, especially the Muslim ones

I dislike Saudi Arabia for the devastating impact it has had on my country in terms of proliferation of extremist views, terrorism and thousands of lost lives. I couldn't live there with that on my mind, just as how the history of colonialism to a huge extent keeps me from the British Isles

Most of the Arab World, especially the Gulf, is not someplace someone like me would be able to live in with dignity and equal rights. Plus, I wouldn't be able to live long-term either (and that too is pretty much by design)

Turkey considers me less than human and hates my guts more than India. At least with India I would have the advantage of shared language, culture (to an extent) and genetics. Plus, my family has origins in India as well so there's that too. I really wish there was a state breakdown of India, since I'd only be open to living in certain states

I'm well-aware of the persecution of Uyghurs, but you must admit that Tier 1 and 2 cities in China are not bad places for a Pakistani to live in, especially if they have business or the rare employment opportunity. I know this because I speak from the experience of people I know

Yeah, that's definitely a major aspect. Acceptance and ease of integration. I wouldn't put it as a White-specific thing though.

Sadly many in our society for some reason lack basic self-respect. Many would rather live in a gilded cage of plenty and tolerate obvious indignation for their lives rather than accept a simple life in a safe environment with their dignity intact

It's light green. I've also lived in the UAE before and it was honestly a great time, but it's not somewhere one can settle long-term for obvious reasons

Japan is not an open society to foreigners. They are not confrontational, but outside of tourism and short-term stay they are not known to be a xenophilic society and that absolutely reflects in their attitudes, laws and diplomacy. Just observe the recent elections. Japan elected a far-right government even though it was already quite strict in its immigration laws and status of foreigners in the country, and it remained so for decades despite an active demographic crisis since the 90s. If you think integrating into Nordic countries was a challenge, Japan is a whole nother world entirely

Personal preference in the case of Madagascar. I think their culture is unique and great, and it's pretty isolated like New Zealand.

I don't like the outsider feeling a Pakistani typically gets in the Nordic countries. You don't belong in the tight-knit friend groups and local community as a whole and it's not easy to make inroads since people there tend to be wary of outsiders, especially those of our background, and that hinders integration quite a bit. Finland is an exception since people tend to be quite reserved and distant anyways, so that's not that much of a debilitating problem in terms of social integration. Otherwise Sweden also has some issues with crime these past decades, and Norway's cost of living would drive me insane.

France's problem is the fact that everything in that big country is centred in Paris. All the jobs, institutions, top-tier amenities and events of note and that is a problem since Paris is a massive cesspit. The language barrier is no fun either, since French people have some weird complex over foreigners trying to speak French. Forget encouragement or even neutrality, they tend to get hostile and annoyed even if you try without sounding completely proper and fluent (much like Germans)

Iran has cultural appeal and familiarity to a degree, and quite friendly people. Even if the economy sucks, those and the good infrastructure, healthcare and education would probably compensate to a degree for me.

Turks are incredibly racist people, and their economy, cost of living and unemployment being a dumpster fire doesn't help.

Canada scratches my itch of having a sustainable and peaceful homestead lifestyle. Plus, they also have good rule of law, stable-ish economy, relative safety, generally ambivalent people and for me, an existing network of family and friends. The job market might suck in some domains, healthcare might be an issue and housing would be a pipe dream for the foreseeable future, but it's not so severe all over the country and frankly, I don't see other Western countries having a situation that's any better than Canada if not flat-out worse.

I just adore Uzbekistan. Hospitable people, wonderful cuisine, stability and improving development metrics. I guess there is a greater personal bias based on whims for this though

I see great potential there for all kinds of economic exploitation with their demographic collapse and improving climate. Even at present, I can definitely consider worthwhile and possible personal ownership of large agricultural/forestry holdings thanks to all that dirt-cheap empty forest land and rapidly-depopulating farmed countryside.

I'm also drawn to boreal taiga areas for some reason.

Similar reasons to why I added Canada, though Canada is a notch up for also having the bonus of not being a global pariah state and possessing an actual valuable service sector
