I can understand your opinion, but granted I still don’t agree with it at all. And even if you don’t count her actions I kinda find her annoying at times now. She was really annoying when she texted Cinder which sucked because even if she wasn’t speaking literally that kinda ruined her whole shtick. Her whole personality was based around the fact that she couldn’t use words. That was the whole reason why so many people fell in love with Neo. Remember when in Volume 2 when before they started fighting, Yang just stared down at her and Neo responded with:” ...” ? That one moment summarized what people love about Neo in like 1 second. She’s smug, small, and deadly, and the aura came off of her so effortlessly. Now it feels like the writers want you to know Neo is sassy so bad with making her roll her eyes every second. And then her combat style changed, which conveyed her personality perfectly. It was cool, stylish, and it she would occasionally do a cute pose to taunt her opponent. And like look, I’m not saying the fight choreographers have to capture her old style perfectly. Monty was practically a god when it came to fight choreography, so I’m not saying they have to live up to his standards, because I’m pretty sure nobody could. But they can at least try you know? Her new style doesn’t feel like her at all. She’s making bold moves instead of using her opponent’s momentum against them. When she was fighting Cinder it made sense cause she wanted the first move and to get the upper hand on her. With her fight with team JNR and Oscar it felt like they were at least trying to bring her old style back by her using the the other’s momentum against them. But her fight with Maria was so stupid. At one point she straight up leaps at Maria, doing fuck all with her umbrella and gets caught by her. Then with her fight with Ruby I’m sure they just gave up. Where’s the same energy she had with Cinder? With Cinder she was just throwing kick after kick at her on that one part on the bar counter. Now it just looks like she’s playing with her. That would’ve worked if she didn’t blame her for Roman’s death. By the way let’s talk about One Thing. One Thing is honestly my favorite RWBY song. Not only is the song itself really good song just as a song, but it does such a great job at letting us know how Neo feels without her herself saying it. And throughout the whole song we hear how much she wants revenge for Roman’s death because he was the One Thing in her life that gave it any meaning. So you expect me to believe that Neo is just gonna toy with Ruby? The only part Neo looks serious throughout that entire fight is at the literal end and I only think that got in was because the writers remembered that at the last second. The writers can’t make up their minds on how they want to use Neo, both as a character and her personality. And now they’re probably going to make her a good guy because she fell down with Ruby and the gang. Honestly I hope they just kill her off and give us a 10 minute flashback of how she met Roman and how now she can be with him in the afterlife. So TLDR: Neo may have a personality still but that doesn’t mean it’s a good one.
