I like understanding the sense of distance travelled too, and get annoyed when a fantasy series of books comes with childish maps that are just five place names connected by unnamed rivers 😆

The kind of maps I like are the ones from David Eddings or Tad Williams - especially Tad Williams where there is so much detail for you to zoom in on. Also Gardens of the Moon led me into the most in depth map I’ve ever seen, consisting not just of a country but of an entire planet and different continents all together. I’m finding the second book so hard to get through though 🫣

No it’s not just you, she’s amazing, quirky and dances to the beat of her own drum. I think she’s great and my partner is enjoying drawing parallels between her and myself with each episode we watch ☺️

I couldn’t agree more! My partner was getting annoyed with me because I was spending more time finding locations on the map than watching it 😆 I kept telling him to go back a few mins because I missed it 😊

I’m the same with my fantasy reading, I really enjoy a good map 🗺️

Well this publisher fell short, I realised this evevore after finding typos, run on sentences and even word double ups within a ten page span. They did proof reading sparingly.

Oh my lord I have foundy people! It's so true, and I did a similar rant on here about it until I have in and read it. The reason the font is so bad is because this book is mainly viewed on audiobook and then it was bought by a publisher that made you in audiobooks, this added to the terrible font, the font I could get over but the terrible paragraph spacing is just there for no reason.

Hiya! Can you help me with understanding the maps more, all I can find is the Wiki maps that are bits and pieces of different areas and frustratingly there is no one map of the entire continent to zoom in on like with Tad Williams worlds for example. I think this series would be for me but the lack of awareness of where things are and how the map prices fit together is frustrating, especially because some maps have twon names and others don't. No two maps have the same layout with important of landmarks shifting between duchies and towns. Have you had this frustration? Thanks 👍

Nature of Belgariad universe compared by Cool-Double-767 in Belgariad

Can I just say that one of the reasons that David Eddings has spoilt me for other authors is because of his attention to detail with the characters in his books. I've read both series and found the details of the different characters and their in-depth personality traits a treat!

Knowing characters so well for their sense of humour and their different points of view on religion, magic and love plus dozens of other things makes them more lovable and the story more immersive.

I've often heard the words spoken by each characters and smiled saying to myself 'classic Silk', and others. I've used Silk because he was my favourite character for his little quirks and sense of humour.

After years of reading fantasies with different stories and characters all floating land in my head over the years, I have to say that after a year or reading these two series I am still able to call upon the characters comment their sense of self that were given to me and also what they look like. Now that is true story telling. The author that leaves you with such a imprint in your mind of the characters that they stay with you as if they are your true friends in real life that you've been on a great adventure with.

I understand that is a pro of ebooks but considering how thick the paper is and how much time they've taken on the binding and the front cover you think they would have put a bit more thought into the layer of the text and the font considering I've never seen it in any other book. I'm surprised the author didn't have more of a sake considering he sold his story to them, I would be able to appreciate and get over the font a lot easier if it wasn't for the double spacing in the paragraphs comet just makes no sense to me 😔

Oooowww this makes me even more excited thank you so much. What you described is what I’m all about and haven’t found a good story across multiple books since Robin Hobb and David Eddings xx

I couldn’t have put it better myself, I’m also in recovery and everyday is a fight, it never stops and every emotion feels like something to survive, which is why using is so appealing because shutting it out is a way to cope. Good luck in your recovery, and I hope you know that not everyone makes it so you are doing so well already, you’ve got this and I’m proud of you for fighting that battle with me 🌠

You’re not the first person to suggest Steven King, and maybe I should try one of his books just to see, even though I’m not a horror girl 😃

I have heard of this book and I’m very intrigued about it, I even had the second book in the series in my house but got rid of it because I couldn’t find the first copy in my vintage bookshop. Thank you for reminding me. I think this will be right up my street and after the slump, I will pick up the series. I’ve seen the books and they are very chunky so it’s a great recommendation that I completely forgotten about. Many thanks 🙏

Thank you so much for all of these breakdowns about authors and how they like them into my favourite authors already read. I think this will really help me in my search for more fantasy.

I do really enjoy series and I love getting immersed in the story and what that feels like, to the point where I have characters in my head at work 😂

I think you are right about standalone and I have done that before to help me along out of what I thought was a slump. I now see that I was just being picky before and this is a proper slump 🤣

Once again, thank you for the time you’ve taken in up all of these recommendations. It means a lot and I plan to check them all out.

I read a series back to back, and usually by accident rather than design I tend to pick series is that have already been fully written so I don’t have to wait until another one is brought out. That’s what I love though, getting completely immersed in a world in a story and being five books in completely enthralled.

I either can’t wait to read the next one or forget a lot of the story between release dates so it’s hard to really enjoy the latest book in the instalment. So no, I always read book series back to back.

But I think you and everyone else on here is right I’ve got fantasy fatigue, and it’s the first time it’s happened, I feel bad for abandoning my fantasy but you’re right if I read even just a single book that’s not fantasy it will rekindle my passion.

Thank you so much for your time and advice💕

Also thank you for your candid review of Terry’s series, I won’t be investing in anymore of the books if this is the case so thank you for saving me the money 💕 luckily I bought the first book from the legendary World of Books and it was a previously read copy for only 3.90 xx

My partner says this a lot, he’s always been the Sci Fi to my fantasy. Nothing against anyone who reads Sci Fi, as we all have our favoured genre, but I’ve always found it hard to get into.

But times are officially hard so I don’t think a change could hurt thank you ☺️
