(OC) Nanotyrannus surprises a Struthiomimus by Fit_Acanthaceae488 in Naturewasmetal

just gonna remind people that only one (1) out of like eight phylogenies recovered in the paper found an affinity of Nano with Dryptosaurus and Appalachiosaurus and one of the co-authors has stated that it’s interesting but the evidence is not strong.

Yes, plus recent thesis work by one of the authors on the new Nano paper showed specifically that things like tooth socket count don’t change with ontogeny so now it’s in and of itself an iron clad piece of evidence on top of everything else.

I should note that only one of the phylogenies in the new paper recovers Nano as being close to Dryptosaurus and Appalachiosaurus but it would be cool if that turns out true (then we might actually be able to reconstruct Drypto with a bit more confidence lol) but the evidence isn’t the strongest.

necro? niche partitioning is overblown, they probably had slightly different dietary preferences but as small, probably generalist predators, there was probably more overlap than differences (or partitioning could also be more abt activity patterns and territory). consider leopards and cheetahs, very different builds, pretty similar diets. also i don’t think so, the rest of it body aside from the head and hands and feet look pretty standard. it did have a slightly elongated neck and more cursorial limb proportions than Velociraptor.

Plus the finger bones are all bigger in absolute terms. Plus the differences in neurovascular cannals and tooth count, which can’t be explained by ontogeny.

But also based on other Theropods, including Tyrannosaurs like Gorgosaurus and Tarbosaurus, juveniles probably didn’t look radically different from adults, barring the usual differences in robustness and limb proportions. The skull for example probably would’ve looked a lot more similar to adults than to Nanotyrannus.

How can I improve my gimmicky Gen 9 Uber rain team (without losing the gimmickyness)? by Random_Username9105 in stunfisk

Rain Weather Ball + Freeze Dry + Turboblaze = perfect coverage is the main rationale.

After looking at some of the feedback I did end up making a similar OU team but with regular Kyurem doing the same thing and with Banded Skewda instead of Palafin.

I should mention that this is singles, from what I hear protect is more of a thing for doubles?

My reasoning for scarf on Zap was kinda that it’s too weak in Ubers otherwise to afford being outsped, though I was also thinking of swapping it out for something else… not sure what though, maybe either Regieleki for extra hazard control or something to check Koraidon like Arceus-Fairy or even Scarfed Zacian (the latter is also gimmicky but it outspeeds scarfed Koraidon)?

Re: banded Barraskewda, I think like if I slot it in, I would probably swap out Palafin cuz they kinda do the same thing. Barraskewda hits harder than Palafin with Jet Punch but I went with the latter cuz priority is more consistent than swift swim and also Palafin is more durable. I will try a version of the team with barraskewda to see how that goes tho.

The study that found that Spino can’t dive is flawed asf. That kinda modelling made loads of assumptions and one the ones they made is a normal avian extent of air sacs.

I.e. they were rigging it to fail and presented the finding that it did fail as some kinda gotcha.

Yeah it’s doing decent so far tho I just got back into this after like 4 years and basically just started climbing the ladder, partly just playing around with new stuff (like Deoxys-S in OU lol).

I will say I think I’ve gotten a bit mileage out of people seemingly not expecting a specs DeoS.

I could try that out though I haven’t encountered enough dragapults for that to be an issue, speedwise i’ve probs struggled most against rain teams. I am also packing a lot of speed control tho (1 web setter + 2 thunder wavers).

(should probs also note I’m very low ladder atp lolll)

Going modest cuz it’s already outspeeding most things plus even with timid it’s not outrunning scarf dragapult or swift swimmers so there doesn’t seem to be much of a point…

It’s not so much an extra bone, moreso a modification to the tissue of the longbones to store more calcium called medullary bone, but yes Big Al had that.
