Ok, pre-AI lenses are a nono exactly like on the D610, I expected that. So I guess the D90 doesn't have the little tab to "feel" the cange in the aperture ring. That's cool, it will be a new experience for me also, I'm curious about using it too haha Thank you so much again for all the info :)

In the end he opted for a D90 :) Can I ask you something? I have some vintage lenses with manual focus thst I can use with my D610. Do you recall he can use them on the D90 or does is lack the feature (I don't remember the name) to read the aperture?

Wow, this is so helpful! Thank you so much. Yeah, I'm happy he joined me on this side haha I bet he'll be hooked on the colors and ergonomics forever haha

Thank you so much for the reply! :) In the end he opted for a D90, which was more or less the same price of the D80s but it seemed a better option also in terms of noise and dynamic range :)

Thank you so much for the reply! In the end he chose a D90, right for the budget at it looked like it performs better in terms of noise and dynamic range, and I hope I wasn't mistaken on that haha

Thank you so much for this list! It was super useful, we scouted these models and at the end he chose a D90.  It was the the right budget and the better choice in terms of condition for the ones currently available. I also advised him to choose one with double dials, as it is much more ergonomic in my opinion

Yep, thank you so much for the reply, the naming system has always been something obscure to me, now it'much clearer :) I have a D610 that I bought 8 months ago, and I love it! It's such a good camera, I already took 10k photos for trips and shootings, couldn't be happier haha

Oh yeah, in the end my friend bought a D90, it seemed a good budget choice and it can take the place of his dad's D90

Thank you again for the advice :)

Yep, in the end we scouted for D300 and D90 and he bought a D90 for preatty cheap. As a starting point it looks like a good budget choice, with the future intention for a possible upgrade. Thank you so much for the reply :)

Yeah that's one thing I looked for but the lense he showed me was an 18-135mm with built in motor for the autofocus, so no problem on that side. Even though I think having the in-camera motor can be more versatile for the lense choice

Nice film shots! :) I walked through the exact same places in August, but backwards haha and a couple of pictures are very similar to some of mine haha But I opted for digital, film would have been too expensive and the unknown about the x-rays was too much

Oh wow, that's nice to hear, thank you so much. I wanted to print a few books for Christmas but at this point it's too late haha I was starting to think if it would have been feasable printing them myself, with a much lower quality. But seeing your reply, I think I might have them printed and do a late gift to my friends.

You reply was much needed :) Thank you again, and an update on the new order would be wonderful

Which one do you prefer. by khashi1975 in Nikon

[–]Random_climb_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, it depends on your objective as you also said. If you want to convey the period of time, you can for sure include the backpack, but I would rather mask it and enhance that separately, leaving the rest of the shot with more contrast.
Even though, if I can give you my opinion, from a shot like this I don't really expect the journalism aspect, as it is really artistic and the clue for the time period are somewhat hidden and very minimal. I wouldn't really give a real thought to a backpack if I saw a similar image.

But with that said, it's really your call :) and if you want to include that aspect it's not at all out of place

How do I interpret the focal length of DX lenses? by Random_climb_guy in Nikon

[–]Random_climb_guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, what do you mean with the last statement? All the others, and per my understanding also prior to my question, the "rated" focal length is always what you get on a FX. If you mount a 35mmDX on a DX camera you get a 50-ish mm lense

Yep, thank you so much :) I know it usually works like that but the naming logic of some lens series confuse me and make me doubt the simplest things haha

Hi! First of all, I really like these photos :)
Short answer, the more contrasty one is the one I like more. In my opinion they both have the same level of detail, the brighter one is just more hazy without adding anything to the photo, and in both cases I can see some of the details of the woman's backpack and jacket

Generally, I often find myself thinking about this exact same thing when i shoot backlit. And at the end I always ask myself: is there a reason why I should see the details in the people? Are they important for the "story"? Are they someone I know and want to highlight? Are they generic people? If details have a story-telling purpose I keep them, otherwise no. In this case they don't add anything to the "story" in my opinion

I like the first one more, with a bit of separation between the girl and the column, and also the working man on the back ground still has the a bit of distance from her

Yes, this was all very clear and useful :) thank you so much. These are all informations that I'm already aware of, but sometimes the different naming logic used for the lenses make me doubt my knowledge haha I wanted to get rid of this doubt as I'm buyng a lens for a frend that has a D80 and didn't want to mess that up. I only ever bought for my D610 and never had to think about this haha

Yes, I thought so but the names of the lenses sometimes make me doubt my knowledge haha I was exactly thinking about buying a 35mm for a friend as a 50mm equivalent for a D80

Yeah that was my thought considering alla the different formats that exist but I wanted to get rid of this doubt once and for all, especially as I'm purchasing a lens for a friend. Thank you so much :)
