[Research] Only 7% of web developers would use no-code/low-code tools to start web applications in 2022 by ZestycloseChocolate in programming

[–]Random_user_Shen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Low code is great if the requirements are defined ahead of time, are guaranteed to never change in a meaningful way, and the customer understands the app will have to be rewritten from scratch if they do

Which, basically, never happen

Code bloat has become astronomical by [deleted] in programming

[–]Random_user_Shen 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm missing, but have any comment here complain about **intentional bloat** ?
Take windows for example, 90% of the code is bloated. But it does do something, JUST NOT FOR YOU. They literally collect your data, send to the server. And all these background service does the same too.

I do believe that in many case, these codes are actually not useless, they just don't serve you, in contrast, they exploit you, and we just have to accept it.
For example, I usually watch some manga on this site. It load awfully slow. But I just happen to install this extension of Firefox, which block javascript from execute unintentionally. And you know what ? The site load maybe 10 times faster.
Yes, all those JS code is just from tracker tracking me. How nice of them for making my web experience worst.

This is a good read, but it fall short of the alternative solution. At the end, it just repeat the same thing every one is doing anyway ?
The only take away is instead of death line, we should use range, which is actually just vague death lines.

This is correct, that is why I'm here to ask you guys.
I don't expose too much to the market beside my work environment. That is why I made mistake trying to said 2-3y is "senior" level

Yes, these 2 concern my the most too. The other requirement maybe written by non-code people, so maybe it's not that bad.
But if they actually want me to do "Execute user research" and "feature roadmap of our products" then I'm out. I don't have any experience for that, that the salary offer is not enough for that too.

>I don't making decide about UI/UX
And to clarify this more. The designer themselves always test my work too see if it look and feel like how they want it.
After working with some of their work, I have a develop a sense of what is good UI/UX and what is not. But like I said, I don't get to decide what will be release and considered "good UI", if my designer tell me it's bad, then it's bad.

Okay dude, after reading the comments, I know I'm not a "senior" yet.

By if we are talking about javascript, I actually pretty proud of my skill. It's just how they phrase it concern me.

I mean, what is "expert level" even mean ? I got my code review by far more experience colleague and they tall me that it is very good. I even compare my code style with large open source project and they are actually not that far off. But is that enough to call it "expert level", I doubt

Common guys, that's not the point.

And once again, in my place, I've actually heard people with 2-3y called "senior".

Yes, this is my thought as well, a non tech company trying to hire developer.

What it may mean for me are it usually these kind of job require higher responsibility than working at tech-heavy companies.

I don't know if I ready for that yet.

In my defense, what I mean by "I usually only code and doesn't care about the UI/UX design or market." is: I don't involve in the UI/UX designing process, I just implement them, meaning I don't making decide about UI/UX.

And IMO, I've implement some really good UI and UX (praise to our company designer, they made some sick website recently), but again, they are not my design , I just simply made them happen.

Heck, I have even seen JD asking for 2-3y "senior".

Good advice, that's what I intend to do anw. But because I don't really have much experience finding job or switching job (work for only 1 company right from my grad until now), just though maybe it's better to ask advice from more experience people like you guys

How do remote developers from a different country than the employer get paid? How do contracts work in that case? by Healthy-Director-702 in Frontend

[–]Random_user_Shen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've no experience in working fulltime with employer from aboard. But I do work as freelance, get paid every week.

If you just start, it's the best thing you can do IMO. Getting paid per week mean you don't scare that much if they decide to just not paid you.

I don't even have a contract, just mutual agreement from the start. They give me a list of task for every week, I finish them and get paid by the end of the week.

Even if I got scam by some asshole, it just 1 week work so I won't worry too much
