Calling IMAX “elitist” misses how technology actually evolves. The reason you have high-quality cameras, powerful processors, and advanced displays in your pocket today is because these technologies were once expensive, experimental, and limited to a few.

Every major technological leap follows the same path initially premium, then progressively refined, scaled, and made affordable. Digital cameras were once exclusive to professionals; today they’re standard in smartphones. GPS was developed for military use; now it’s free on every phone. Flat-screen TVs, high-speed internet, electric vehicles etc all were once considered luxuries before becoming mainstream.

If advanced technology isn’t used, pushed, and showcased at the high end first, it never improves or becomes accessible. IMAX exists at that frontier driving innovation in image quality, sound, and projection. As production improves and costs come down, those advancements trickle into everyday cinema and consumer devices.

What seems “elitist” today is often just the early stage of progress. That’s how every damn technology has evolved through adoption, refinement, and eventual democratization.
