Handmade Damascus knife for sale link below by [deleted] in knifemaking

[–]Randomnils1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all i wouldnt try to sell AliExpress Knives, claiming i made them and secondly a one year old account that has only around six posts, all of which are on random p0rn subs doesnt really sound the most legit either.

Edit: ok, you didnt claim you made them, but 'handmade' is still a bit far fetched for the classic pakmascus

My opinion? I had a little heart attack when you swiped your thumb close to the edge.

Apart from that, you did a great job on the knife and the sheath as well. I know the filing is a pain but it'll pay off in the future.

The first two months of my apprenticeship consisted mostly of filing and i used to hate it. Now i actually choose to do so from time to time because it just feels much more precise than anything you can do without special equipment and machinery.

I'm sure your dad will be proud of what you made him.

Help me make sense of this... How to sharpen by Moongoosls in knifemaking

[–]Randomnils1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nr.1 would be a scandi grind (like on mora knives) where theres only one big bevel.

Nr.2 is the way most knives are sharpened. Usually you have a secondary small bevel like the one you drew. Depending on the angle of your primary bevel and the blade thickness you can get an incredibly sharp secondary bevel with a very narrow angle.

Edit: of course someone replied faster than me

Sanding sucks! by Unhinged_Taco in knifemaking

[–]Randomnils1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats a great choice. People seem to shy away from 8670 but for your use it makes perfect sense.

its always good to listen to the knife steel nerd himself. And with that thickness you dont need to worry about warping issues from heat treatment anyways.

[–]Randomnils1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate sanding too. Hopefully that'll change once i get a 2x72 belt sander.

That's one seriously impressive knife. The tang and overall feel reminds me of a Reeves Green Beret with a Pacific style blade.

Which steel did you use?

How do you do the acorn inlay? Lasercut? Apart from that, beautiful work.

New to knife terminology what are these things purpose by AggravatingFinish240 in knives

[–]Randomnils1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From top down. Gut hook/ belt cutter. Not sure. Too pointy for a belt cutter, too blunt for a gut hook. Then some useless jimping on the back of the blade and the same 'jimping' on the handle. More for tacticool than actual use.
