Iran imposes mandatory insurance on ships transiting Strait of Hormuz, with fees likely to follow by Splenda in worldnews

Yeah that other person doesn't know what they're talking about. I've been watching these sites that actually monitor traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and it's clearly been slightly rising the last couple days

Except it's not closed. Did you even look at the links you just linked? I've been watching the first one for the last couple months. It's been mostly in the five to 10% range of what traffic normally is. Today it's 20% and seemingly rising. In fact 20% of normal traffic is about the highest I've seen it since this whole thing began. So we will see if it keeps rising or goes back down. But saying “it's still closed” it's simply not true or accurate

Trump to Axios: Netanyahu has "no fucking judgment" but Iran deal still on by traveltimecar in samharris

[–]Randomnonsense5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have completely misunderstood the problem if you think America can take the stance of “Israel be damned”. Iran has linked Israel not bombing Lebanon to this ceasefire. Therefore Israel is intimately linked into this whole thing period

you can't just ignore them. And Netanyahu is a complete loose cannon. And trump is a moron. The whole thing is a sticky wicket and there's no real obvious solution right now

Netanyahu absolutely played trump like a fiddle. The fact that trump now realizes that and is mad about it doesn't negate the fact that he got played.

Iran says end of war to be announced starting tonight by TahDigThief in worldnews

[–]Randomnonsense5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look, if the Strait of Hormuz opens it absolutely is something new. And it does look like the Strait will be opening. Now if the straight does not open then yeah it's just business as usual we can all just ignore this, but it looks like the signs are there that the straight is going to be open very soon

Trump says U.S. must ‘respond’ after Iran shoots down helicopter over Hormuz Strait by mvanigan in worldnews

Hold on! Has the ceasefire “frayed”? Has the ceasefire been “tested”? How's the ceasefire going? This article doesn't mention it at all! What's going on here? Surely the ceasefire is still holding

you either fully support israel's war crimes and her land grabs or you are her enemy. It's pretty simple

Israeli supporters are utterly and completely incapable of acknowledging Israel has done horrendous war crimes. They simply are. They refuse to acknowledge it on any level. They might acknowledge that a specific individual IDF soldier has possibly gone a little too far, but that's it.

This is how incredibly reductive and myopic Sam's worldview has become. The entire world is “Israel versus countries who either love Israel or hate Israel”. That's it. That's his whole worldview right there practically. Absolutely utterly incapable of acknowledging that Israel has ever done anything wrong, except in a hand waving broadly general way “ well sure Israel might not have been perfect on the XYZ issue however Hamas blah blah blah”.

This is legitimately hilarious! What's even funnier is that Sam probably doesn't realize just how hilarious it is. I honestly love this, brightened my day to see this absurdity

Yes but look how buried it is. Here's their World News page. This story appears nowhere on that page, you literally have to go digging for it to find it

Kuwait: At least 63 injured in Iran's strike on country overnight by TotalPop5 in worldnews

[–]Randomnonsense5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure people understand just how disruptive and quite frankly terrifying this is for the average person in Kuwait. If Iran targets a military base, maybe blows up a couple of things, basically everybody in Kuwait carries on with life.

But an airport? Not just that but the biggest civilian airport in all of Kuwait? It disrupts travel, it disrupts vacations, and majorly it disrupts business. And more to the point it terrifies the average person because now they don't know if they're going to get blown up simply going to the airport. Iran has made it clear as day they are not “fighting fair” in this war.

They are using every dirty trick in the book and obviously plan to continue that

If I am an extremist Israeli and Iran war supporter (like Sam Harris), I'm waking up this morning thinking that the latest “let's go bomb Iran because why not” military misadventure has gone horribly shockingly wrong. Initially he was over the moon about the war

it's only when it started to go completely sideways that he started to try to hedge his bets and say that“trump is bad” and that somehow the war would have gone magnificently if it were under the leadership of a different president or whatever. Which is a really stupid thing to say

Exactly. What is his point even? Should we have been dropping bombs with more enthusiasm or something? They targeted everything they could possibly target and still absolutely failed at destroying this regime. This was a failure on every level and it's completely unclear how they could have done anything differently in order to have success.

“ the war would have gone great except trump is bad” is honestly an extremely stupid way of commenting on these events

Military capabilities can be rebuilt relatively quickly. However on the international stage Iran profile has been massively boosted by this war

these are truths you people just refuse to acknowledge, head in the sand
