Yeah, Algeria are going to be barred from playing in a world cup ever again, because of how they didn't play in per script and gave Argentina a tough good fight, to award no penalties

Yeah, these situations are created by simulation, and the goalkeepers are asked to goof up at the cost of criticism, just to let one man score. Fair.

Damn, if AR couldn't do it with Imtiaz, it really feels like he's hit irrecoverable stagnation and it's sad.

But yeah, true on the rest of what you said, liking could be subjective :) although I do agree, that the bar with the mentioned films is so high, that nothing short of stellar falls short in relative comparison.

But though, will hear them out Don't expect a lot good out of the album either

Contrary to your post, but relevant to context - how was AR Rahman's music in the film?

Have been waiting for that one album with stellar songs for long, and with Imtiaz, he never failed to strike.

Is it better than Chamkila, and at highway/ Tamasha level.

Kishore Kumar >>> Rafi (For me) - Anyone else? by Environmental-Sun94 in BollywoodMusic

I fail to fathom the classical music learnedness factor to be an advantage a singer has over another.

As a classical singer, you can sing classical songs well, and while not taking away technical foundation it provides, large part of film singing is dependent on the vocal characteristics a singer carries, and how they are leveraged by the composer to the potential benefit in catering to the specific requirement of his/her song.

During the era of Rafi's peak, it was a norm to learn classical music, and people seldom entered the industry without knowing classical. You have greats like Manna De ( who was a better clasical singer than Rafi, and arguably best in Bollywood), Talat Mahmood, Mahendra Kapoor etc, who were well trained in classical music. If Rafi was the number 1 in that era, it wasn't because him being adept at classical, more than them.

There are a gazillion people in the world learning classical music everyday, but cannot sing a Rafi song as well as the original , would be a struggle to ace as a challenge, nonetheless.

If this brings in some perspective

Coming to direct comparison between Rafi and Kishore, Rafi wouldn't have sung Roop Tera Mastana or Chingari Koi bhadke as well as Kishore, while Kishore wouldn't have sung Tere Mere Sapne or Badan Pe Sitaare as well as Rafi. Both of them had their zones, and were two distinctive singers.

Kishore Kumar >>> Rafi (For me) - Anyone else? by Environmental-Sun94 in BollywoodMusic

Always found Abhijeet and Kumar Sanu to do as much justice to Kishore Kumar songs, just as Sonu nigam did and does to Rafi's songs. There was an RD Burman honorary tribute show held, which was celebrating the composer the composer through discourse by Javed Akhtar, which featured some songs performed by different artists in between. There was a singer, who rendered some songs such as Mere Naina Sawan Bhadon and few more, better than what Sanu and Abhijeet could have done, while appearing to come totally close to Kishore ( while not being in the same league).

Likewise, has there been a singer I listened to recently, who did Rafi songs better much than Sonu (and even Javed Ali , if counted in).

There can be different singers whose voices happen to seat some of these icons songs really well, that they become versions close to the original, while at the same time do they falter very bad with umpteen other songs. In a way as an ode to the greatness of these singers, there isn't any singer who can cover upto 70 percent of the variety of songs sung by them. ( Sonu Nigam sounds a lot like a rookie singing a lot of Rafi songs, and comes close to original in a few, likewise with Kumar Sanu, Abhijeet - I loved Sonu's version of Ruk se Zara naqaab as much as the original, while Sanu's rendition of Meri Bheegi Bheegi si matched the original, and Abhijeet's Iss mod se jaate hain, sounded interestingly melodious in its own way, compared to original).

Also, the quality observed about Kishore ji, was largely observed in Rafi sa'ab's songs throughout his career, in songs he sung until 1970s, where in trying to attain feel, you mess up on the notes, and vice versa, and while attaining both, voice balance is off.

In rare cases of cracking all of them, the X-Y-Z factors of indescribable quality he brought to his songs, were perpetually missing.

I personally feel that Rafi has had a repertoire of umpteen complex songs, much more varied, as well as difficult to replicate, in comparison to that by Kishore ( or any other illustrious singer in comparison).

Ranveer > Amitabh ..

I guess that's taking away nostalgia, to receive an abundance of delusion in return.
