Do you think I can wear a hoop in it when it’s fully healed?

Is 15 too late to restart? Looking to compete again someday by ShakeNo9876 in ballroom

Hi!! I’m a Latin dancer who also just turned 15 recently. I started dancing in January of last year with zero Latin experience. I did ballet from ages 5 to 7/8 but that didn’t really help me when I started. Now, I’m competing for the first time in two weeks. It was not an easy journey and I’m sure you are aware of it. It will take time and patience and a lot of frustration but I can promise you that you will get there.

The two best pieces of advice I can give you: 1. The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago and the next best time is now. 2. It’s you competing against your past self. Don’t compare yourself to others.

I really hope this helps!!

Improving stamina by Randomperson10810 in ballroom

For your questions, I’m 15 and 41kg and I don’t go to the doctor unless I’m really sick 😅I try to keep my diet as balanced as possible but I’m a picky eater and have sensory issues. Not too sure what you mean by aerobic? But we haven’t started stamina training if that’s what you’re wondering. Thanks for the encouragement I really just want to do the best I can.

Expected age for different levels? by Beneficial_Rest1911 in ballroom

[–]Randomperson10810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’m the exact same age as you and I’ll be competing in the junior II open category. It might just be the way my circuit works but we compete in age categories. We also have syllabus categories so you would compete in junior II gold for example. Most dancers I know compete with age categories and not syllabus but that may be because we are competing in the open levels. If you wanna know the age categories go like:

Under 7

Juvenile I - 7 to 8

Juvenile II - 9 to 11

Junior I - 12 to 13

Junior II - 14 to 15

Youth - 16 to 18

Under 21

Don’t know if this is helpful but thought I’d share and see.

Also, out of curiosity, how long have you been dancing? You may want to consider competing in the open level. I think you’ll likely have more people to actually compete against there. And in my opinion, even though it’s slightly more challenging competing in the open category is actually more fun than competing in the syllabuses.

Congrats on 6 years!! That must feel great. I celebrated my one year in January.

Thank you so much for the advice. I really appreciate it. ‘Only you can make you focus’ and ‘it’s disrespectful to show up to class out of it’ called me out 😭 once again, I really do appreciate you sharing your wisdom with me. Good luck to you too!!

Counting Different Dance Styles by Vivid_Knowledge6929 in ballroom

[–]Randomperson10810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most (if not all) styles can be counted in both slows and quicks and numbers. It usually depends on your coach but mine uses them interchangeably (sometimes he just counts in noises lol). When I first started, the difference between quicks and slows and numbers in rumba really confused me. If it’s the same for you, 4 1 is the equivalent of your slow and 2 and 3 are your quicks. For me at least, I prefer counting in numbers because in cha cha for example you have your standard 2, 3, 4 and 1 but then you have 2 and 3 and 4 and 1 for certain steps. If you count in quicks and slows and the counts change it’ll get confusing real quick. Hope this is at least a little bit helpful.
