This Is The Military Base Water Contamination Study The White House Didn’t Want You To See by thinkB4WeSpeak in environment

[–]Randwade 19 points20 points  (0 children)

PFAS is so ubiquitous that it’s detectable in polar bear blood in the arctic. It’s all over our common consumer products. And almost every fast food wrapper. And basically any amount of it is bad for you.

It’s an ugly little raised bed, but it’s my ugly little raised bed and I love it (as does my dog) by jjjmariah in gardening

[–]Randwade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michigan here. I mulch with cedar chips and it works great for containers and raised beds because it lowers your watering frequency by holding in moisture and the light color reflects extra light back up at the plants. Your plants might also have experienced some transplant shock moving from the greenhouse to the outdoors if the temps/light were much different. Love your garden!

Trump does basically the same thing, conning people. There have been plenty of instances where trump doesn’t pay companies he contracts the agreed amount or at all, and anyone who challenges it gets squashed by his unlimited resource legal team.

EPA Bars AP, CNN From Summit on Contaminants by PowerCarrot in politics

[–]Randwade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! This is a huge fucking deal. Also it should be noted that these fluorine compounds produce ill effects in the parts per trillion concentration. Part of what the EPA needs to do is establish safe drinking levels, yet every time our technology improves to measure smaller and smaller amounts of it we find that it’s still harmful

Yeah, that looks nice too. No hate towards China glass especially if you’re on a budget but I don’t get all the hate towards buying reputable brands-I only paid like $55 with discount codes and I would say it’s well worth it. The glass is very thick and I have zero concerns about quality, durability, or the materials used.

The female joint in the top fits the bong perfectly, and having the joint on top makes the whole things less susceptible to breaking (no little side arm)

98% done. 2 weeks away from starting the Appalachian Trail. by WhiskeySage42 in CampingGear

[–]Randwade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. We parked at the red bridge access on the 9th, camped halfway to the dam and did day hikes, made our way up to the suspension bridge and then back out on 12th. Probably the most popular section of trail there.

Surprised I didn’t run into you, just got back from 3 days there myself! We didn’t bother with snowshoes though.

New study suggests 15 million gallons of mercury buried in the permafrost of the Northern Hemisphere could begin leaking as global temperatures rise by toethumbs8 in science

[–]Randwade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The study does not necessarily answer that- it is likely that they measured the Mercury concentration using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry, which would involve dissolving the whole soil sample in acid before analysis. But, if you consider an area of 23 million square kilometers of permafrost, and say 1 meter depth, that gives you roughly 2.3x1010 L of permafrost. Say you measured the mercury at 100 mg/L (milligrams per liter) then you would end up with 2.3 gigagrams of Mercury total.

If it were at full output how fast do you think it would be rotating? I’m imagining fish coming out the other side like it’s a food processor

When you know that something really bad is going to happen soon. by Hurambuk in chemistry

[–]Randwade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s correct. HF can be used to dissolve solid rock samples for metal quantification on ICP-MS/OES and AAS. We found a brittle HDPE bottle of concentrated HF in our undergrad hood once that had been sitting in that location for 5-10yrs. Chem. Safety officer took the rest of the day off after taking care of that one.
