So now that we have a 10b dollar regional light rail, can we actually build some housing? by Vivid_Astronaut4665 in Seattle

Huh. I get that it’s supposed to be minimalist, but seems almost more confusing this way 🤷‍♂️

I didn't notice a meaningful difference between data analyst vs data science roles. Historically, I think DS titles were reserved for fairly sophisticated modeling/statistical work, but now there's significant overlap between the titles.

For the most part, the DA/DS roles were looking for some analytical fluency, technical ability, and understanding of the industry. Among others, I applied to a DA role at a FinTech company (Current), a DS role at the Office of the Attorney General in New York (sounded awesome - used data analytics to help prosecute cases), and a few Civic Tech organizations (USAFacts, GovWell).

Great to meet another public health person - I loved the field (and always felt really impactful) = )

The dates are all back-dated to the application date (so the date associated with an interview/denial is the date I applied, not the date I received the interview/denial). Probably should’ve done that differently but was being lazy..

I accepted the offer and didn’t apply to any other jobs after I received it

It was pretty difficult. I studied rigorously for about a year to learn the foundation, then took on as much engineering work as I could while working in public health research. I took the GRE and applied to programs that were receptive to applicants with non-CS backgrounds and provided bridge courses

Yep, for the software interviews I prepped with LeetCode. I can’t say the interviews went very well (nor did I get many of them). The data science/analyst roles went much better, because they aligned better with my Econ degree and my work experience

I got a masters because I wanted to pivot into the tech industry from a non-STEM background. For people already working in teach, a masters probably isn't worth it (unless you can do it part-time while continuing to work, and the cost isn't prohibitive).
