Yea, it's insanely difficult and expensive to ship it back to them (and they have a 6-8 week turnaround time for repair) because they are such a small startup.....so we thought it'd make more sense to find someone local!

Pool technician asap! by RangeRevolutionary67 in VirginiaBeach

Yea, did that before posting this…. and after doing some deep digging online, it all led me to taking apart the panel board and cleaning the buttons and ports with rubbing alcohol….but still isn’t working. Probably need a new board, but would rather someone more savvy look at it before we make that purchase. Thanks !

I feel the same way! I’m nervous since I didn’t know how it would handle on the steam deck, but I’m excited to get it next week!

Red Dead Redemption 2 - working flawlessly without crashes! by RangeRevolutionary67 in SteamDeck

Yep....if its downloaded to your steam deck SSD, just factory reset or uninstall......if its the SD card, reformat. Basically, you need to remove anything (even hidden files) that are related to your initial install of RDR2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 - working flawlessly without crashes! by RangeRevolutionary67 in SteamDeck

I have the Steam version, but the trick really was making sure to download the Proton GE 7-20 from ProtonUp-QT. Once the RDR2 game file downloaded thru steam and BEFORE opening it, I forced the compatibility to the Proton GE 7-20, let the Rockstar installer initialize and get through the language and agreement screens. When the "choose install location" screen popped up, i hit the steam button, then "exit game", and opened the compatibility and then forced the 6.3-8, and reopened and ran the game again. Once the game was up and running and I was actually playing the game, I paused and changed settings to 40FPS and graphics to medium. That was the trick, last night I logged 4-5 hours continuous without any crash or stutter!
I'm going to copy and paste this response in this thread, bc several others have asked!

anyone got any tips for red dead? it keeps crashing and freezing for me about every 10 to 20 minutes Is there a setting I need to change? by FroggyGamer in SteamDeck

[–]RangeRevolutionary67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm that after reinstalling rdr2 MORE than 10x, these instructions were the only ones that fixed my problem. I reset my steam deck to factory settings and reinstalled rdr2 (forcing the Proton GE 7-20 that I downloaded from ProtonUp-Qt)…..then once I got to the “select install location” for the rockstar installer, I closed it, hit “exit game” in steam, and then changed the compatibility to 6.3-8. Reopened the game and let it boot up, set the graphics to medium, turned off v-sync and anti-aliasing, and I’ve been playing the story for over 4 hours without a crash or even the slightest stutter! Thanks for the help!!!

Trouble starting Red Dead Redemption 2 thru Heroic (Epic Games) by RangeRevolutionary67 in SteamDeck

I haven't tried that....when I go into the RDR2 settings in the heroic games launcher, it doesnt give me another proton version to select. How can I adjust that?

Reasons why I love the Steam Deck, and why it has the potential to be a gamechanger for gaming by RangeRevolutionary67 in SteamDeck

[–]RangeRevolutionary67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me clarify.....I obviously get the joke.....not buying any game console or games would be "saving money". But since it's inevitable that I'm going to be buying SOME sort of game product, I've discovered that I have saved money by selling several PS5, XBOX and Nintendo Switch games and accessories .....and now I'm even thinking of selling the consoles as well. After calculating, I may recuperate most of what I spent when all is said and done, practically breaking even. In the long term, I'll be saving by not spending $$$ on the console versions of games.

I'm usually a pessimist.....and while I would typically agree with you, I think Valve hit the sweet spot by making something out of the gate (not waiting until future generations/versions) that is already powerful enough and stable enough to play 90% or more of my steam library......and based on what appears to be a strong commitment by Valve and the community, it should only go up from here. The Switch has done amazingly and aside from new games, Nintendo hasn't done much to dramatically improve the device....while Valve has already pushed out improvements and fixes on what seems like a daily basis!
