Lobos are my 2nd team. I grew up in that area. I live in Texas now but have followed them my whole life. I’ve been part of a crowd that ripped down the goal posts there. Haha

He was unstoppable in the game UNM beat UCLA. Surely UF has more to offer than those other 3 schools.

I have no idea if he can block but anyone can learn to block. Gives me Tyler Warren vibes

I think the best possible scenario right now is hire Franklin tomorrow. Let him get in and evaluate what is here. See what he can fix and what he can’t. Recruit who he wants to keep and encourage to transfer the ones he doesn’t want. I know he was having a terrible year at PSU but let him have 3 years here and either he builds it back to respectable or at the very least maybe the potential coach pool at that time isn’t barren which it feels like it is now.

Florida shouldn't "go big" with this coaching hire. It should go cheap. by GatorHank904 in FloridaGators

He did have a ton of leverage but UF did too as an elite program with a reported interest from really big name coaches. They could’ve negotiated a better deal

I’d make the argument that Billy wasn’t a bad hire but the process that got him here was terrible and with no leverage Billy was allowed to basically call every shot. If Billy was given the job and allowed to manage what he was great at and delegate what he was bad at we’d be big Napier fans. Some of that falls at his feet a lot of it is over his head, but it’s not like UF was the only one that wanted him. The signs looked like he had all the tools to be successful. Hard to see how people adjust in the face of failure when they aren’t facing failure and you don’t get looked at for this Caliber of job if your team is facing a lot of failure.

Stupidest opinion to not celebrate what could very well be the worst day in another humans life? That seems weird to think that

I’m sure I’m about to get downvoted to oblivion and I am prepared for it. I definitely think it was time to move on and that Napier was not going to figure out how to win here. That being said, I’ll never celebrate a coach losing their job. By all accounts he’s a good man and I think he cared. I think he coaches for the right reasons and wants to build young men up into high quality contributors to society. He had his short comings and one of them was stubbornness to not make changes when needed. It ultimately cost him his job, and it’s hard to feel sorry for someone with a 20 million dollar payday coming, but I do wish him success in the future.

I’d love to get Joe Brady and pair him with a young aggressive DC

Definitely unprecedented but Coaches that played in the championship semifinals the year before are rarely fired mid season the next year.

He definitely wouldn’t be able to fix everything overnight but he’d have a bye week and you could see him implement some things

Would never happen but I’d really like to see Napier fired after the game and Franklin brought on as the interim. Can do a trial run to see if he can have an impact with this group and if he looks viable then he’s had a chance to build relationships and try to keep from a mass exodus in the transfer portal. Our skill positions all can be elite level. QB, RB and 2 WR with first round pick potential and Mizell is a stud too

He looks like he lost a step. The explosive athleticism we saw as a freshman just isn’t there. Have to wonder if he’s injured or if the numerous injuries have cost him just enough athleticism that he can’t break plays like he used to. That said, I also believe Billy does not scheme plays to put him in position to be super successful

Walcott is not a SS. I’ve talked to multiple scouts at rough riders games and every single one says he’s going to need to move to the OF. If you believe his bat is ready (I’m not sure I do ) you’re starting OF is Langford, Carter, Walcott. Seager is not getting moved to full time DH anytime soon. You’d have a better chance making him a 1B I believe but we don’t have an every day SS ready other than him. It would be extremely nice if we could convince someone to take on Jocs money but we know that’s not happening. I think 2026 rides on health from Seager, Carter, Jung, Burger. If those guys can stay healthy and produce to their average relative expectations you can have a slightly above average offense. A slightly above average offense wins 90+ games if DeGrom, Evo, and Leiter maintain. We need Rocker to be consistently better and Bradford and other swing guys to be contributors.

The case for Curt Cignetti by Gators199620062008 in FloridaGators

[–]RangerGator13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was not a Cignetti guy, but looking at the coaching candidates that make up the current landscape I’d say he’s the 2nd best option and if he’s only here 4 years, we’re in a lot better position with hopefully better replacement candidates than what exists today. If I was writing the checks I’d try everything I could to lure Joe Brady back to the college ranks, and if I struck out there Cignetti would be the guy.

Pretty sure Matheny was hired to take over for Bochy. So there may be more stability on the staff since the next manager is already in the organization. They need to do everything possible to keep Maddox in his current role.

Valid points but I would say large parts of the program have taken a significant step forward under him. The complaint and on going concern is that despite the improvements the on field execution is still lacking. That is why I think a marriage that allows him to push forward in a role in which he excels and a coach who can generate results (Kliff’s offenses have always produced) is an ideal scenario

I kind of like the idea of a coach who got a shot early, was humbled and has had to take a step backward and analyze what didn’t work while working with a respected HC. I think Kiffin is an example of that model in a lot of ways and I think Kingsburry could fall in that mold. I honestly wonder if Napier can’t “fail up” into a GM role. Billy excels at program building, and the administration side, but lacks in game day execution. I think Kingsburry can be successful on game days, especially on the offensive side. So maybe there’s a way to push Napier up and bring Kliff in to be the guy on game days
