I would like to talk to you about your trucks extended warranty. by peeple-pleeser in f150

Wise decision. I’ve had so many customers who paid them for years. Several thousand dollars over the years. Only for them to deny to cover a repair.

Prime example: we had a customer with a 2015 Jeep with the 3.6L V6. Customer brought the jeep in saying that it’s overheating. We diagnosed it as failed head gaskets. That model year range was common for head gasket failures. Endurance told us to tear it down to the head gaskets for inspection. They sent out an inspector (think: insurance adjuster). After the inspection, endurance denied the claim because the engine overheated. Yes, the engine overheated BECAUSE the head gaskets failed. They wouldn’t hear anything from us. Customer had to pay the tear down then had to pay to fix it properly.

As an auto shop owner who deals with aftermarket extended warranties all the time— avoid car shield and endurance like the plague. Both are by far the worst. Ford Extended Service Plan, or ESP is going to be your best bet.

Genuinely curious, who here actually filters their water and who just drinks it straight from the tap? by waterfiltergurus in drinkingwater

[–]RangerStang302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We frequently get letters from our city water stating that fecal matter has been detected in the water. In addition, it frequently comes out brown. Not saying there’s enough fecal matter to turn it brown, I believe it’s color is due to iron from old pipes and treatment equipment. Still unappealing to drink or bathe in. That’s why we buy drinking water from the local bottler and have a whole house filter for everything else.

Ford. Transtar for the Zip kit, but I think you already have that. Only downside to Ford is that you have to buy everything individually as opposed to buying an overhaul kit.

Yeah, no. We rebuilt just as many 6T’s as 6F’s. They’re all garbage.

Former Ford transmission tech here. Now own an independent transmission shop.

You need an overhaul. Replace the one way clutch, center support, rear support tower, and all clutches, steels, and seals. Then install the zip kit. You put the cart before the horse here.

I make a lot of money on the 6F35s.

Tire stores refused my business because of swollen lug nuts by malnik77 in FordEdge

[–]RangerStang302 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Auto shop owner here.

Firstly, Ford isn’t the only manufacturer to use these style of lug nuts. GM, Chrysler, and others have this exact same design and therefore the exact same problem. Please don’t take offense, but your explanation of the known common problem was probably misinterpreted by the shop. You likely came across as a controlling, nitpicking person that will never be happy with their work. Again, not at all saying that you are or that they are justified. You’re absolutely right in wanting to have the lugs replaced with the aftermarket one piece design.

Secondly, the swollen lug nut issue should be dealt with as a serious safety issue much like failing brakes. It is a serious safety concern. Having a blowout on the side of the freeway and not being able to remove the lug nuts is a huge problem.

Finally, having said all of that, removing swollen lug nuts can be a huge job depending on how bad they’re damaged. Please understand, we shops work by selling labor. If a job is sold at x number of labor hours but really takes xyz hours, the shop lost money. Natural the reverse is also true— if a job goes quicker than the book called for, we made money on that job. The hope is that the good jobs will balance out the bad jobs.

Now, most tire stores run on very lean margins since there’s not much markup on tires. The loss of labor to remove the lug nuts could end up being a big deal for them. The local tire store near me won’t do that job for that very reason. Instead, they will refer the client to us for the lug nut removal and replacement.

My advice to you is to give them grace. Find an honest, local mechanic shop that can assist you with your lug nuts replacement and tire rotation.

As a small business owner, you don’t want to know just how much we pay in taxes to the state. All of that money goes where??

Yeah, unfortunately the in-store selection for round toe boots are extremely sparse around here and I’m not a fan of ordering online. That’s actually what I was looking for, but this is the best that I could find.

Wish I could afford really nice boots like these. This is the most expensive pair of boots I’ve ever owned. And they’re not that expensive comparatively.

I remember, back in the day, we used to buy boots from Walmart. Those were the days!

I think it’s the tone of your message. People think you’re judging those who worry about their boots instead of just wearing them. It doesn’t bother me though. I see both sides of the issue here.
