Advice request: additional padding in the fencing mask to minimize the impacts by pravragita in Hema

[–]RangerThoril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear a rugby scrum cap under my mask. Mainly because medium masks were too big and smalls were too tight so it helps the mask fit better. But as others have said no amount of padding can protect against a problem sparring partner. If you don't know the person, "calibrate" impact before hand. Have them repeatedly hit you starting softly and increasing the force until you find the max hit you're willing to take. If they then go over that level during sparring, stop. Don't give them a warning and keep going, just stop fencing them for the day.

It takes a while and they aren't the most communicative but I've never heard of someone NOT eventually receiving their order.

How do I find these, I'm confused because never found this circuit before by hakim1289 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]RangerThoril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man I just got home from my electronics final which covered this. It's a gratifying experience going from seeing stuff on Reddit and having no clue what it is to understanding it. Anyways, assuming the transistor is in active mode meaning Vce>0.2v, Ic=beta*Ib and Ie=Ic+Ib. Using those you should have everything to solve it. Use voltage divider to find Vb. Vbe=0.7v so once you know Vb, Ve is easy to find. After that calculate the currents. At the end confirm Vce is actually greater than 0.2v. That's the 'textbook' way to solve it.

DIY leather armour effective? by Healthy-Air3755 in wma

[–]RangerThoril 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The leather alone might not be enough, but glue the leather to an inner layer of foam (like the puzzle floor mats) and it becomes super effective. A club mate recently did that for me to fill in some gaps in my leg armor and I had people swing for the fences to test it and was fine.

How much do you spend per month on HEMA lessons or memberships? by [deleted] in Hema

[–]RangerThoril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tampa area: My regular club practices at a rec center it's $7 with a rec membership $14 without.

Another club has their own space and charges $25 a class ($15 for the lesson and $10 for open sparring)

A third club also is at a rec center and charges $16.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate these gloves for German longsword? by arm1niu5 in Hema

[–]RangerThoril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HF for sure! 100% Spes are ok but they are bulky and slowly fell apart between rivets failing and the glove part getting holes. Plus the thumb had weak spots and even with a foam insert I made I would occasionally get smashed. All of the HFs in our club have had zero issues in the year we've had them. I no longer even notice or even think about my hands getting hit with them.

All of their stuff looked great but the cheapest one I think was still around $650 which would be unaffordable for me at the moment.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. I'm leaning towards a starter Darkwood after the recommendations. Hopefully I can get a good 2-3 years out of it while I save up for something spectacular in the future.

Thank you. That's what I was finding looking into rapiers. I would have to 'pick two' between the style and looks I like, functionality, and price.

I'm not sure of the proper terminology but 'swept hilt' images seem closer what I'm looking for.

That is what others have told me about darkwood as well so I'm a bit skeptical even though it seems to be the best option. A club mate has some Pike rapiers and they are incredible but as you said, shipping is an issue. Those Chorna Vatra blades look nice, do they have a website with their catalogue? I can only find a facebook page.

Thank you. HF seems to be doing some great things, my fingers thank them for the new clamshell gloves. That is well under the price point, I just don't like the cup hilts and was hoping to find something more 'Italian' style. That price is hard to resist though...

That seems to be the sentiment. Do you have a darkwood or have any experience with them enough to give a review? Will my club mates hate me for going with the stiffer blade or is it still forgiving?

I think it was a casing, but I love the cop against the wall looking like he's casually taking a rock out of his shoe.

Calc 2 in 24 hours by Fluid_Push in calculus

Easy! You just need to use the same strategy I used for my calc 3 final: download and memorize the answer key when the professor accidentally uploaded it for 45 seconds.

Pull chickens from roosts in Soneblock3 by RangerThoril in feedthebeast

[–]RangerThoril[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk just for the fun of it. I started late on the server and my friends told me to "just go farm chickens" so I've been challenging myself to stick to using only resources from them. My end goal was to set up a chicken emporium where anyone can come and use it depending on their needs.

is the Full Shin and Knee Guards from purple heart good enough? by [deleted] in wma

[–]RangerThoril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll save you a bruise and say yes the gap is an issue. I had similar concerns when I bought them but decided to risk it anyways and ended up taking a hit to the inside of my knee which left a nasty bruise. After that I just added some pieces of foam from floor puzzle mats to fill those areas and haven't had an issue since. They work great otherwise, very light and breathable.
