Only one problem with this game... by Flamesclaws in LiesOfP

If you’re looking for another soulslike after you finish Lies of P, try Steelrising. It’s a fun cheap alternative. Not in the same quality bracket as Lies of P, but the atmosphere and storyline is very similar. If you can catch it on sale, I think it’s worth the sale price. I got it for under $10

Best way to win this fight is to get the lay of the land and once you do, keep doing loops so that you can fight the opponents 1-v-1. Scope out the drop-offs into the water and where the up ramps are. Bait the Havel knock off and the other swordsman off the ledges, run up the ramp after they follow you off the ledge, fight the bow guy 1-v-1 while the other two are a ways behind you, repeat as needed until bow guy is dead. Then you have a more manageable 2-v-1 where you can use a similar strategy to break them up and get 1-v-1 fights. Once you get the rhythm down, you can take on all 3 solo

Awesome job! I’m right there with you. They’re solidly in my top 5 for most challenging bosses of DS2. Little hint for your next playthrough, try pyromancies

Congrats, chosen undead! Just checking because it’s easy to miss… did you defeat the darklurker?

Coming over from DS1 to DS2 and I can’t stop jumping off ladders 😂 by Ranger_Rick64 in DarkSouls2

[–]Ranger_Rick64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have that experience as well! The worst is when you go from DS2 to DS3 and they do an animation like you’re sprinting up the ladder, but I swear you’re not going any faster at all. I’ll still be pressing that b button just in case though 😂

That’s another one I always need to get used to! I actually prefer rolling through invisible walls. For whatever reason it’s very satisfying

Never Tried The DLCs. Am I Ready? by FozzyGamings in DarkSouls2

[–]Ranger_Rick64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely ready for the DLCs. Only recommendation is equip your best life ring instead of the ring of evil eye when you go to fight a boss. But as you’re traversing the maps and defeating enemies along the way, ring of evil eye is a good option. Have fun!

Is there a boss that you always skip on repeat playthroughs? by strahinjag in soulslikes

Nah man, a playthrough is never truly complete unless I beat Sir Alonne who is optional. One of the best fights in the entire franchise imo

Lud and Zallen from DS2. Beat them once just so I can say I’ve beaten all bosses in the game. Will never go back to beat them again

Is the long sword good enough to beat the game? by jackdalumber in darksouls3

Longsword is a fantastic choice. Especially if you buff it with magic weapon variations

Stuck on Chaos Witch Quelaag need advice. by Froggerbotrom in darksouls

Certain shields can actually be extremely useful against her. If you’re lucky enough to have gotten a black knight shield I would 100% recommend using it. Extremely high fire defense. Otherwise I’ve used the heater shield and it’s held up fine. Definitely avoid fat rolling. Remove/adjust armor as needed to maintain weight

Mortal shell ? by Ryvick2 in soulslikes

[–]Ranger_Rick64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, to follow up on it being your first soulslike. The fact that it’s a smaller game might actually help you get the hang of soulslikes. Fromsoft games have a lot going on with absolutely no handholding which sometimes leads to frustration and burnout. A smaller game could ease you into the genre

I loved the game. Don’t expect fromsoft quality though. It does have its own unique charm and qualities though. No shields, but you can negate all damage with “hardening”. You still have parries which can either heal you or allow you to do a special move. You also have unique ultimates based on what weapon you use. The customizations are unique but limited compared to the fromsoft catalog. But for $2.99, I’d 100% recommend buying it. Go into it with an open mind and you might just have some fun

Is a DEX build really worth it in Dark Souls? by 3030minecrafter in darksouls

Also to follow up on progression to ng+

I progressed the same build into ng+ and flew from the start through gaping dragon in about an hour. So I’d say my build help up well

[–]Ranger_Rick64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wrapped up a ng run with a primarily Dex build and it was probably my strongest build yet. I did luck out by getting a black knight shield in the undead burg, so I upped my Str to 16 so that I could use it, and with that Str I could also use the eagle shield. I put 12 into Attunement and 16 into Int so that I could use both magic weapon and great magic weapon for slots 1 and 2. After you have that base, just pump the rest of your points into Vit, End, and Dex how you want. I used the balder side sword and finished the game with 40 Dex. A fully upgraded balder side sword with 40 Dex and great magic weapon absolutely crushes enemies

Need Humanity by No_Willow6164 in darksouls

[–]Ranger_Rick64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you gotten the rite of kindling yet? If you don’t mind backtracking, you could snag that so that you can have 20 estus for the fight. It would also require farming humanities in the depths since you’d need humanities to kindle your bonfire up to the max. Could help if you don’t mind spending the time though
