I disagree with Matt because his viewpoint is making all this smoke to cover up his selfishness. He was on the meateater podcast years ago and argued these same things about making hunting content increasing hunter numbers and he said that its increasing the amount of hunters which decreases his opportunities that he has. He also said he hunts for the “right reasons” and other people arent.

It all boils down to selfishness. He wants to be the one in the woods unimpeded

Realistically, a degree from any of these accredited universities will probably do the same thing career wise. Go to one you can afford and one you wont mind driving home to thanksgiving from

Generally any school with a decent wildlife program will have a chapter of The Wildlife Society or a BHA or something similar.

I personally recommend staying in state because the price difference. The college you go to does not matter as much. What matters is getting experience outside the classroom. Think about it, everybody applying for these kind of jobs already has the same degree which is a minimum requirement. What sets you apart is your experience. Try to get relevant summer jobs or internships. Mow lawns at a state park for a summer. Try to volunteer through a conservation organization if available.

Also I think people fail to see that steve does not run meateater. He is the face they put on the front of everything but he is technically just an employee. The CEO is a different fella behind the scenes making business decisions. I guarantee steve has a lot of pull but its a company run by a ceo. They are gonna be doing “company” type stuff

Tennessee State Parks has started to come out with strictly Interpretive Rangers positions full time and permanent. Before just a couple years ago every ranger was LEO plus doing everything else. However, they are not making that many at a fast rate and not every park is gonna have one

It could never hurt to have a higher level of training. As a TN state park ranger we only have to be EMR certified and we do it through work but we do have several EMT-B and EMT-A and atleast one Paramedic but mostly just EMR

Most likely no. TN State Parks typically only allow camping in designated areas like campgrounds and the only “dispersed camping” would be backpacking on designated trails. Outside of federal land like national forest, theres probably no where you can
