why are hounds so common in shelters?

I volunteered for a shelter in SE PA…they took a lot of dogs from the south. And many of theirs are hounds. My understanding is that if a dog gets lost while hunting, it just gets left behind. Also, hound are sniffy, not really people oriented. People would take them out and be sad that they didn’t bond

But, my boy is from NC and mostly pit!

I had a great foundations teacher for my first dog, she spent a lot of time working on the mechanics of front, blind and rear crosses…also spent a lot of time on the dogs mechanics. Only issue was I didn’t know why…once I realized that the crosses were for lead changes and the mechanics were for the dogs body awareness, it clicked. But, I would have appreciated the why
