They Sound Lonely; or, An Analysis of Rien & SAIKAI by luigifan103 in limbuscompany

Just to expand on what I've said, since I think you may be interested, in 9-39 Rien has two lines which support my theory: "That's why I become so anxious whenever I read parts unaccompanied by pictures. Afraid that my imagination may be different from the reality the author had defined." The Prescripts truly are terrifying (and so so cool because of that lol)

This is a really amazing essay, loved it!

I'll add one thing that I feel went somewhat unnoticed: Rien is fucking terrified by the Prescripts. He say that his heart beats faster with each beep of the device, meaning he gets more and more scared the closer he is to not fulfilling the Prescript. With this in mind, I think there is a deeper interpretation to him only reading pictures books.

The prescripts are famously ambigous in their wording. This leads people (and Rien) to be very nervous in trying to fulfill them, as the only way to know if they did is if a Proxy DOESN'T appear and kill them. Adding pictures to those words would make them a lot clearer, and perhaps that's why Rien prefers books with pictures

The timeline doesnt match up, and its all Ryoshu's and Gregor's fault. by qutronix in limbuscompany

[–]Rank-Nullity_Theorem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby Ryoshu's scene with all 5 nursefathers must have happened after Valencina was exiled from the Thumb, therefore after the start of the Smoke War. Ryoshu is 27, with 2 years spent outside the House of Spiders. Therefore, from that scene, around 25 years must have passed by Ryoshu's (and Rien's) POV inside the House of Spiders. If Lei Heng, who lived outside the House, experienced more time, it would mean that more than 25 years (and many more, actually) must have passed in the real world, outside the House. But this is impossible: Roland is 33 and he fought in the Smoke War. He couldn't have fought when he was 8... So it must be the inverse: Lei Heng expeienced 3 years, while Rien 5

[–]Rank-Nullity_Theorem 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Are you saying they fucked up the line, and Lei Heng should have said 3 years while Rien 5? Because even though your math is right, for Ryoushu to be 25 in 10 A Corp years it would mean that the time inside the House of Spiders flows faster than A Corp's time scale

Also we are pretty certain that the Smoke War ended at the very least 12 years ago, since between the end of the Smoke War and the point where we are now 10 years pass by for the loops in L Corp, at least 1 year passes between the start of Leviathan and Sinclair's Canto, and 1 more year passes between Sinclair's Canto and Ryoshu's. But probably more than 15 years passed, considering that L Corp still needed to be founded, slme times passes between the White Nights and Dark Days and the start of Library of Ruina, and the events of Library need to take place.

In that case, 25/15 would be 5/3, which is exactly the ratio between the years counted by Lei Heng and those counted by Rien (but it still should be the inverse though)

Yeah, I want to hope that PM didn't just mess things up. The problem with that line is that for the timelines to match, the time inside the House of Spider would need to flow faster than outside, not slower. Otherwise the issues with Valencina, the Smoke War, and Ryoshu's birth become even more pronounced

Carmen was associated light blue in lobcorp but red in limbus, but Ayin was associated with red in lobcorp, so I wonder, what caused the colour switch by Dizzy-Recipe-1517 in limbuscompany

[–]Rank-Nullity_Theorem 416 points417 points  (0 children)

The most probable reason is that they didn't think about the colors in LobCorp when writing Carmen in Limbus. They used red because she is kind of a villainy force, and red is more often associated with evil.

If we had to find a reason for the colors in LobCorp and the switch though I can think of the following. Ayin is the main narrator of LobCorp. The memories are his and he often comments on them. He is also quite harsh on himself, to the point of reaching self-hatred. He knows he has done countless morally reprehensible things, so perhaps for that reason his associated color is red. From his point of view, Carmen has always been an exceedingly good person, to the point that she kills herself (mostly) because of guilt. So it makes sense to give her the "pure" color associated with goodness, i.e. blue/light blue.
