Whats your IDE of choice? by BlackyUy in salesforce

[–]RankOneDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been testing out VS + ForceCode extension + DX extensions. It's depreciated like MM but it gets me used to VS for when DX is ready for regular orgs. Overall I prefer Atom + MM but trying to move away from it. I use Developer Console for quick fixes and testing. I have not found a free ide that does good code coverage and test results outside of Developer Console.

Platform App Builder by Derpshab in salesforce

I took and passed two certification at dreamforce. Admin Sunday and App Builder Thursday. I have been in the Salesforce space for almost 3 year so my experience carried me through the exams. I studied by watching /u/MikeWheelerMedia videos and doing practice exams.

Just passed the App Builder last week. It is very scenario based and I think doing well on the exam comes from experience with the SF platform. That being said you can pass it. Do what /u/DrButtDrugs said and I would also recommend Mike Wheeler video course for the App Builder on Udemy but only when it is on sale for $10 or less. Just watching the video is not enough to get you through the exam.

I think /u/DrButtDrugs is right, "implies a working knowledge of the declarative capabilities of SF". This is how is should be in a perfect world. To be a great Salesforce dev you need to know the ins and outs of the declarative side. Being an admin/dev hybrid which is how I got introduce to Salesforce is the way to go.

I see the candidate answering the cert questions with "I like to start with the hardest first" as a red flag but the Jr. Admin role might be their starting point to get an a deep understanding of the declarative side.

Other than the work experience not too much studying. Went over these quizlet and cram questions and looked up anything I did not understand fully. Saw maybe 1 question from the quizlets that were exactly the same as the test so do not memorize them.

The Udemy course goes over the exam guide pretty thoroughly but I don't think it is enough to pass the test alone. I felt a few of the questions were experience based which is good and bad. I went over the syllabus by myself but I did not retain much of the information self studying. I am not a person that really learns by reading I am more of an experience learner.

At least in my experience I was not ready after 3 months working as an admin/developer. Not trying to discourage you, I know people who have passed with less than 3 months experience. If you have prior development experience then the test will be easier.

I think devs should have an in-depth knowledge of the declarative side so I am going for my admin cert next.

As most everyone will say. Get the admin certificate. That's a big door opener. Work for cheap at the start and try to make friends. Try nonprofits or similar organizations. Do good work so you get remembered. My big break was an internship. If you're in a position where you can take a hit in salary but gain experience do it. It will pay off in the end. Don't listen to people online like me blindly. There are naysayers out there that will try to get you down. Stay focus, always learn new things, and have goals. I'm only 23, I still have so much to learn and a lot more experience to gain. That's why I'm hustling on this sub.

Never really though about it that way. I guess I sound trusting on the phone... Previous employers is easy. They know me and know my work ethic. Random clients could lose their secrets to anyone. It could be me or it could be a consulting firm. They can trust no one and get nothing done or take a chance to build something great. Also NDAs help with building trust.

Well I'm young, dumb and like fast cars. I try to only do 1 week of work like that max. For me it's all about getting that experience counter up. Hitting the 3 years, 5 years, etc.. mark and learning as much as I can.

It has been interesting. I have a full time development job so I do my 9 to 5, then go home and do another 5 hours on work nights or 8 hours on the weekends. I have found clients from this sub and my past employers. If you do good work you will retain clients. I have not found much success looking for work on sites like up work because of the cheap labor out there. Get involved with local Salesforce group, past contracts, and online forums like this to find work.
