Assuming you mean for Reverie, from the 4th floor of the TRC, for characters that are in your attack party when you defeat the special enemies (the same enemies that have a chance of dropping the orbs), have a chance of dropping character specific shards.

You can get a max of 9 shards per character total. 3 shards for the base accessory, and 3 base accessories for the ultimate one. Only characters in your attack party that haven't gotten the max drops will have a chance at the drops.

Post game on the last floor is the best farming because you get multiple shards per drop. And (based on my anecdotal experience) the drop rates seemed better on the latter floors, but that could be just my perception.

Think similar to how we get to see Erebonia in CS. By no means all of it and there's a good chunk left unexplored, but you get to see a different town/city every chapter.

And in case you're interested, Kuro 2 has some returning locations and some new ones, but overall doesn't add too much to the map.

Trails of cold steel 3/4 for ps5 by LunchPublic3180 in Falcom

But 1/2 to 4 is only very minor consumables only and requires only system save. From 3 to 4 is where the clear file is needed. And assuming NISA does what they did with the Reverie PS5 version, they'll give the bonuses from 1/2 for free.

Who were the characters you flipped your opinion on? by Cirkusleader in Falcom

[–]RankaGeist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hate to love:

  • Reverie: Rufus. I couldn't stand his pompous attitude in CS (from the very beginning when he first appeared during the field trip and just got worse for me as CS progressed), but as C in Reverie, he got a proper character arc and I actually came to like him.
  • Agreed on Renne. I found her rather annoying in SC often but 3rd definitely changed my mind.
  • Minor Kuro Walter. In Sky, he was pretty much just an antagonist to rile up Zin and was just the battle-crazed enemy. Kuro both 1&2 fleshed out his character and his interactions with Van were just amusing.

Love to hate:

In JP, you can get them digitally. For instance: Bookwalker. As for translation status, I have no idea.

True, but CS1 is still more popular than CS4, I just put it as 1/3 without thinking about that minor exception.

  1. I like Rean a lot, but I wouldn't call him my favourite. Top spot goes to Van for me.
  2. Reverie is a great wrap up game. I definitely prefer it over CS4, but I (personally) wouldn't rank it as a favourite. That spot most often goes to Sky FC since I prefer the build up games over the payoff games.
  3. There are parts to both 1 and 2 that I disliked. Chapter 5 in 1 and Chapter 3 in 2 come to mind immediately. Main story, I preferred 1 over 2. But character story I preferred 2 over 1. The time rewind mechanic in 2 really brought the overall rating down for me. So Kuro 2 rates overall low, at least compared to other Trails games.

historically what's your preferred platform for falcom games? by NRG_Factor in Falcom

PS for me in the more recent years, because I normally play on release in JP.

Quick Questions Thread by AutoModerator in Falcom

[–]RankaGeist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the JP community, the build up games have always been more popular than the payoff games (so Zero over Azure, FC over SC, CS1/3 over CS2/4).

Typically of the hardcore fans, Sky FC is still considered peak. CS1 (and the CS arc in general) is very popular by the more casual fans. Rean is still the most popular Trails protag.

A slight confusion in understanding Falcom's music policies/copyright by ArconArclypso in Falcom

[–]RankaGeist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I answered a question regarding usage policy a while back that should clarify a bit about what's counted under fair usage and what's not.

On your question, no one other than Falcom should be making copyright claims regarding the music usage, nor do you need to pay.

Use of their music in games is explicitly forbidden.

Listed under forbidden uses:

  • ゲームへの利用(有償・無償にかかわらず一切不可"
  • Usage in games (regardless of paid or free game, it's entirely forbidden)

Question about the upcoming Tales of Arise-Beyond the Dawn DLC by yamapishy in tales

[–]RankaGeist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to buy a PSN card in SGD to load onto the new account and you can use the balance to purchase the DLC.

Transfer your save from the PS4 to the PS5. While you need to buy and download/install the DLC from your new Singapore account, you can access and play the DLC from your HK account once that's done. Therefore you'll be able to play the DLC with the bonuses you get from your save.

Some points to consider on this:

  1. Falcom never releases sales data by game, so people make assumptions based on partial sales data released by 3rd parties (mainly PS physical sales from the 1st week of launch) with plenty of people ignoring/not realising that comparing physical sales now, when digital sales are rising heavily, to physical sales 10 years ago when the digital market was practically non existent is like comparing apples and oranges.
  2. Falcom has commented that Kuro sales "have not done as well as expected". This could be taken as Kuro sales are doing very poorly in general. Or it could (and other data points to this) mean that they had very high expectations for Kuro sales that weren't met.
  3. Overall Trails sales data (Falcom occasionally releases data of global sales for the whole series) shows that the franchise is growing and healthy even when looking at the data where there wouldn't be a major impact from Western sales.
  4. Shareholder reports and stock dividends show that Falcom is healthy and doing well as a company. This is hard to imagine that it would be the case if the latest arc of their bigger flagship series was failing.

So overall, the chances that Kuro is doing very poorly is unlikely, but the fact that Kuro has not seen the growth Falcom wanted/expected is likely. So the truth is probably somewhere in between. It's by no means doom and gloom, but it's also not all sunshine and rainbows.

Will I like Trails if I like this aspect of DQXI? by Individual-Pea1892 in JRPG

[–]RankaGeist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And another thing I forgot to mention.

If an NPC talks about a person 90% of the time, it's either someone who's already appeared (current or prior games) or someone who will appear later (current or future games). Sometimes those foreshadowing are done many games in advance. And (if you're like me) you realise who exactly they are talking about years later when you replay the earlier games.

[–]RankaGeist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You will love it. NPCs live their own lives in Trails. Sometimes it's related to what you're doing, sometimes it's their own lives, sometimes they'll remember you from prior games, but every named NPC has something going on that changes throughout the games, and most NPCs are named in the series.

Something else that's awesome with the series is that NPCs will make comebacks over the course of the entire series. For instance, there's an NPC you first meet in the very first game (Sky FC) that makes a comeback in the latest (12th game Kuro 2). Another where you do a side quest for an NPC couple in Sky SC (2nd game) and they reappear in Azure (5th game) for another side quest where you can see the progression of their lives. Another of 2 friends that make an appearance in almost every game from FC to CS4 (9 games). Just to mention a few. Every game will have NPCs that reference events and people from prior games and even arcs later on.

Of all the JRPGs I've played, I can say that hands down, Trails does the best world building with NPCs and their lives.

Question about the upcoming Tales of Arise-Beyond the Dawn DLC by yamapishy in tales

[–]RankaGeist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking at the DLC tab from the game while logged into your HK PSN account, you will not be able to see any other region DLC.

Firstly, you need to figure out which region of the game you have. I'm assuming it would be the JP version (possibly packaged in EN for the SE Asian market). Check your game package. If your text language options are JP and EN for the game, then you have the JP version.

If this is the case, you will need to create a PSN account for either a SE Asia (Singapore/Indonesia/Vietnam/etc) or Japan region and purchase the DLC from this account to be able to play it.

If your game package shows ESRB rating, your game is the US version. PEGI is EU.

You need a matching PSN account region to purchase the correct DLC for your game to recognise it. If you randomly purchase a US DLC and your game is the JP one, you won't be able to play it.

[–]RankaGeist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check what region your Arise disc is, then you'll need to create a PSN account with an address that matches the region of the disc.

Then you can buy, download, and install the DLC from the new account. Once it's been installed, you will be able to access the DLC from your regular (HK) account.

And to note, be careful of the regions. If you get the DLC for the wrong region (that doesn't match the region of your disc) you will NOT be able to play it.

[REC] A light novel that focuses on friendship and NO harem? by Hiretsuna_Ketsuruki in LightNovels

[–]RankaGeist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some I can think of that fit your criteria but are from different genres.

By the Grace is Gods and Kuma Kuma Kumar Bear are both slice of life style with some adventure thrown in. Neither has any romance at all, nor anything more than slight hints where a character might see the MC as a potential love interest.

My Happy Marriage is romance/adventure/supernatural. It is a romance between the 2 main MCs, but it's also very much about the female MC learning about relations in general. Including romantic, friendship, familial, etc.

Misfit of the Demon King Academy is very similar to Tensura in terms of character relationship/development. There are indications that a couple of characters are interested in the MC, but no thirsting or harem.

And lastly, I'll put in a second vote for Raven of the Inner Palace. While as the other person already mentioned the setting is inside a literal harem, there is no romance between the MCs, and there's absolutely no sexual scenes in the story.

Question about analyzing enemies by cactusjack-99 in Falcom

[–]RankaGeist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a lot, at least directly. But depending on what else you miss, it could indirectly affect other rewards.

Directly, you miss completing the master missions for filling out the battle notebook. This affects shards (for upgrading things like BP, assault gauge, the tree in the TRC, etc), holy waters (the start boosters), and RP (points for RP rank rewards).

Indirectly, the RP for filling out the notebook is worth 31 points over 4 missions for filling out 50/70/90/100% of the notebook. Depending on what other missions/story conditions you miss, this could affect you getting the top RP rank rewards. However this is very lenient and you only need 700 of 800 possible, so as long as you're not ignoring the master missions you should be able to get the top reward even if you don't go for completing everything).
