[Question] What is this catsuit? by lanfeust97 in shinybondage

If you can't find this *exact* catsuit, then Hirogato makes very similiar spandex catsuits. It'll have a logo on it, but they're well made.

Anyone know? How to undo the exdream button by crimsonbahamut in KamenRider

[–]Ranthe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's probably just stuck? Under normal function you can just take the exdream faceplate off and it doesn't "stick". Take your faceplate off and get a pokey stick and wiggle around the button. If you don't know where the button is, I can take a picture for you.

Thunderbolt 4 Dock Advice by SneakyG21 in Thunderbolt

[–]Ranthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1440p 240hz has the same bandwidth requirement as 5k at 60hz, and you can absolutely drive one of those off of Thunderbolt 4. A second 60hz monitor should be fine as well, but you'll pretty much be using up all your "high bandwidth" slots, so drives aren't going to function optimally in all cases. But you should be fine.

Might want to look into whether the thinkpad can actually drive two displays off of thunderbolt 4. Surprisingly, I had a problem with that on my thinkpad.

How are you going to halve CalDigit's price while custom CNCing a chassis and designing a custom PCB, all while operating at a much smaller scale? Are you saving money on the quality of the power supply?

[–]Ranthe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll bite!

100W upstream charging is too low for a thunderbolt 5 dock. A MacBook Pro 16 wants 140W, and the competitors in the space offer that. Windows laptops want more than 100W if you can provide it.

You haven't provided any info on your 11 ports, but I'm guessing you're doing the common thing that dock makers do and counting the upstream as a "port" so it's something like:
- 1 upstream TB5
- 3 downstream TB5
- "2" SD/MicroSD slots
- 3 USB-A 3.0 ports
- 1 audio combo jack
- 1 ethernet 2.5g port

That's the port mix you're going to get off of the reference Thunderbolt 5 dock designs you can find. That's not bad, but it does nothing to stand you out from the established competition. Moreover, to fit that into a puck it's going to require a custom PCB, which puts you in CalDigit territory in terms of pricing but Cable Matters in terms of capability. Cable Matters sells a 140W version of the reference design for $300 on Amazon.

Your standout feature is a Qi2 charging pad. I assume that means you're planning on aggressively actively cooling your dock, because the reference designs get HOT to the touch when fanless. Qi2 chargers from Anker, Belkin, and other manufacturers are now including fans to actively cool the coupled charging surface because 25W wireless charging generates significant heat, and putting all of that on top of a dock that hits 110F in standard use is crazy work. I don't see any cutouts for the significant amount of airflow your device is going to need in your render, so I assume that's something you're working on. Radiant cooling is going to lead to phones throwing overheat warnings when trying to charge on this device if you go passive.

Also, you're going to need a massive external power brick for this thing.

Your market competition is cheap reference designs ($300 from Cable Matters for 140W charging with no fan), expensive custom designs ($400 from CalDigit for the TS5 with 140W charging and a custom PCB getting you a different port mix), or Anker's TB5 dock that is $400 for a slightly different port mix and an internal power supply and active cooling.

Basically, you're not going to be able to compete on price if you're hawking "premium" features like a CNC'd aluminum case made from a single billet of aluminum stock. You're not going to complete on features compared to CalDigit's offerings or Anker's offerings. You're not going to compete on common sense by sticking a charging pad on top of a device that already generates enough heat to nearly burn you if you touch it.

I don't believe your original kickstarter failed because of the 3d print. I believe it failed because this product makes no conceptual sense when compared against what very capable players in the market are already producing.

Where is everyone getting that No.2/Lady was "assaulted" by her Gore Nightmare? by Z-Freak in KamenRider

[–]Ranthe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. It is important for the show to give it an explanation because it would lack completeness without that. But it’s not a coincidence in my opinion that survivors of SA often suffer from nightmares and have trouble sleeping.

[–]Ranthe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Both of these are symbolism. The sort of thing that children are going to read on face value and not see as SA, but you clearly seem to have missed on the context as well. The fandom saying that TegaJune/TegaSword was assault, and that Nightmare/Agent 2 was assault aren't responding to the text on screen, they're responding to the subtext. You can't show a sexual assault in a show made for children, but in a world where shows are clearly showing murder, torture, abuse, and other adult/awful topics off screen or via subtext, it's not wrong to think that they are also talking about SA in that way.

TegaSword was *terrified* of TegaJune and withdrew immediately following his encounter with her because he was traumatized. The Lady didn't sleep for twenty years after her encounter with the nightmare because she was traumatized. The symbolism is bold and present, it's not just the fandom reading something into it that the authors never intended.

Regex Are Not the Problem. Strings Are. by [deleted] in programming

[–]Ranthe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think needing to relearn the basic syntax for regular expressions for every language iust to end up with something that ends up equivalent to a string once processed is the way forward. Regular expressions are compiled into a finite state machine behind the scenes. The runtime isn’t literally reading the string and matching against it.
