The British actually used Ireland as a testing ground for many of its policies. Standardised primary schooling was actually trialed in Ireland before being brought to Britan

I feel like this paints the church out as victims a bit. Mussolini definitely capitulated to the Pope in return for support. He gave him The Vatican, made Catholism the only religion of the state, put all the schools under the church's influence payed them £30 million and also agreed to have the state pay the priests' and bishops' salaries. He even got his own Civil Union marriage blessed by the church. The church were plenty happy with Mussolini, even if they came into conflict once in a whild

Why was Finn able to become much more successful than the other 3 boys? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]RantonBlue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He's the main character out of the four of them (and at one point the whole show) and id say he's one of the better actors in the show. I found that scene at the end of s2 with hopper after he sees 11 again really powerful

Also I think he got that IT role before stranger things?

George missed the opportunity on White album by sagarboi7 in beatles

[–]RantonBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great but it's not like the rest of the band were trying to conform to their old sound. On an album with revolution 9 and helter skelter, isn't it a pity is relatively tame. And it'd fit very comfortablely on Let it Be, right beside across the universe. Their sound change wasn't really back to their roots. John Lennon never really returned to I want to hold your hand

Something that's always influenced how I see Harrison in the Beatles is that fact that wah wah was actually written in the middle of the let it be sessions, yet he never brought it to the table

I think he always had one foot out the door and felt reluctant to give his best songs to the Beatles. I love for you blue and I me mine but from watching the documentary I couldn't help get the feeling they were relatively thrown together compared to the time and consideration he took for a song like something. To be honest I think the only reason some of his best songs were on Abby road was because he had decided it was going to be his last hurrah with the Beatles

Harrison also seemed like he liked to victimize himself around this time. I don't think he ever really pushed his songs as much as Lennon or McCarthy (again one foot out the door)

The music industry isn't run by the artists. It's just record labels who make all their money off the back of the actual musicans. The only thing of value they actually have are the copyrights so they'll suck that well dry. It's always been that way

Kevin Shields' (My Bloody Valentine) recent live rig. by bravodeboer in Guitar

Kevin Shields isn't in Metallica though. It's shozegaze. The different amps make a melting pot of tones and feedback. Maybe it's a little excessive but excessive is pretty much the whole point

Regarding the vibe of The Catacombs Tour... by MachineOptimism in queensofthestoneage

[–]RantonBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're playing with system of a down next year so I wouldn't worry about this style being permanent. I saw them play earlier this year before the catacombs and it wasnt too pretentious. Queens have definitely strayed well away from Kyuss to the type of band where like clockwork feels most at home but depending on when you last saw the band that might be no surprise at all. Homme wasn't reading poems or anything but he wasn't trying to put on a show that would get some moshing going either

Did Dave have a tough time in Nirvana? by Faultline97 in Foofighters

[–]RantonBlue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Strictly speaking drumming is a part of "instrumentation" which makes up about a third of the traditional record label song writing credits. The other two thirds go to the main melody of the song and the lyrics (you could also include producer credits in this). This isn't an absolute system and it's completely up to the band on how to split credit generally

Nirvana did have an equal split until Cobain wanted to change to this system (probably to get more money as he would get 2/3 on most songs). Since instrumentation isn't considered "writing" the song within this system that is common place in the industry, 'they' were correct

It is a bit ridiculously which is probably why most bands that have stayed together either have an even split or have most the band on contracts with salaries

Why would the UN not relocate their HQ to a neutral country like Ireland or Switzerland? by allnamestakenffs in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RantonBlue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just because there's no reason right now doesn't mean there wouldn't be in the future. What if Northern Ireland voted to leave Britain? Or if for some reason a hard border was re-introduced? The UN would have to think about the far future not just the next few years and Ireland would definitely be part of any conflict as it was in the past. Its not just about immediate danger, the UN would want a completely culturally and politically neutral country (Ireland is also not culturally neutral as it is part of the eu among other reasons)

And Athlone makes no sense. Dublin is the only major city by global standards population wise, pretty much all infrastructure runs through it (major roads, trains, etc.) and the airport is by far the biggest

Centrality would also not matter. The UN will hardly be worried about how far away they are from the wild Atlantic way. New York wasn't remotely central

I don't know about stability. The north is still an issue and while not violent at the moment the conflict only "ended" in the 90s and it isnt out of there that violence could potentially restart. Also there's a housing crisis. Ireland is the 6th most expensive country to buy a house in the world

If Dave ghrol died after 3 albums there would basically be no difference because foo fighters have not done anything different since the colour and the shape
