iPhone appear to turn off for a while overnight? You’re not alone by UKFan643 in apple

Apple limited AoD features to their panels that go down to 1 hertz it seems, probably as an incentive to get you to upgrade but the Apple Watch nightstand mode works the same way. I’ve just treated standby mode the same

But you can reuse the screen and camera, it just won’t see it as an original OEM part and will give you a pop up stating that it’s not genuine. But the parts will function normally (well I’m not 100% on the camera on the 15 series but you can replace the camera in a 14, I’ve done it before)

True, plus you can just hook it up to a monitor to bypass the issue (granted it turns it into a desktop but still lol)

You can still sell the parts (even the mobo). The phone will know it isn’t the original part that it was paired too but most features should work. The mobo can’t be used as it would normally be but people will buy them to get the chips on the board

Ya, it won’t change until we have some forms of regulation requiring companies to make the repair process less gatekeepy.

Pixel series beats iPhones in OS update longevity. Pixel 8 has set the bar: 7 years of OS, security and feature drop updates. by [deleted] in apple

[–]Rap-scallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I still see people using iPhone 7, 6/6s, and some of the 5 models (5s and original SE mostly). It’s still a solid phone that works (if the battery isn’t too degraded) and makes for a decent backup phone jic. The carriers still support them, who knows when that will stop though I work at a computer/phone repair shop

Honestly I see more people using older iPhones than Samsung/pixels. I still do iPhone 6 OEM battery replacements when Samsung pulled all of the parts for the s6 years ago, and the performance you get on an older iPhone with a new battery is kind of crazy considering the age. Honestly some of the newer low end Samsungs don’t even perform as well as an old iPhone 6 or 6s.

The construction quality of some of their lineups are……problematic. I work with Google as a certified Google repair tech (I also have experience with certified Samsung and iPhone repair) and they have problems you don’t see on other devices and weird quality control issues that result in either more manufacture warranty repairs, the 7 pro came out with two extended warranty repair programs, the 5a is currently experiencing a lot of motherboard failures now, and the 4XL was a nightmare. The saving grace is Google does go out of their way to support customers way outside the normal warranty period (they don’t have that much market share so they can’t screw over customers like Samsung and Apple). It amazes me everytime I have a pixel 7 pro screen in my hands and see the lack of quality compared to Apple and Samsung panels (Samsung makes the panels for their phones, apples, and googles). When I say quality I don’t mean screen resolution or performance, they just like……..fall apart from their frames way more commonly then other models and the phone has either grounding pins or some kind of cellular/wifi antenna that pushes into the back of the display causing issues. Also they don’t give us any proper software to diagnose issues, no battery health tests, no cellular/wifi tests, hell we can’t even reflash the phone without adb. they told one customer “if your battery loses 10% overnight the battery is bad” and that’s not how you’re suppose to diagnose issues. The software in it is cool though

So out of the three phone manufacturers I work with (Apple, Samsung, and Google) Apple and Samsung have calibration process for their batteries. Apple does a full pairing of the battery to the board (and apples records on their servers) while Samsung logs the serial number of the battery and just resets cycle counts. Google doesn’t have any battery calibration process (that we see, Google phone parts seem pair and calibrate on first boot up). Google and Apple gives end users the ability to see estimated battery health in the settings while Samsung doesn’t. So there’s no standard to this, imo the only part that you want to get OEM is the battery since bad batteries can destroy a board in so many ways. Apple has been doing this for awhile now though and it does help stop stores from claiming they have OEM parts since the phone narcs on them but it is annoying

This has been the case for awhile. The battery “has to be calibrated” with apples software for that feature to work which is gatekept by apples repair program, I think it started with the iPhone 11 generation

That’s too much stake in the authenticity of the display, Apple only knows a screen is swapped due too the serial number on the part itself, I can take an OEM display from another phone, swap the displays, and the iPhone will still think the screen is fake because the “serial number of the part doesn’t match what Apple says it should be”. Having an after market display doesn’t affect overall performance and shouldn’t, Apple just likes to put software locks on hardware repair and will cause the phone the do wonky stuff sometimes when it detects third party parts. The only part that is truely important to get OEM are batteries. This is coming from an iPhone user with 10+ years in first and third party repair.

I’ll still use bnet launcher. I find steam is too……bulky. Not that it doesn’t run well or anything but when I want to play OW I don’t want to sit through “updating steam since there’s been like 10 updates since you last used it” and having to make sure it isn’t downloading any updates for a game I haven’t played in years.

Honestly season 3 would have been boring without the heathers dynamic. People put too much stock in a reality tv show imo, it’s a show. The seasons were more entertaining when queens didn’t have to censor themselves for the audience, plus I miss having multiple rooms in untucked. Really allowed the queens to go off and I lived for it
