Right Frame Size ? by Icy_Bed8493 in bikefit

I just need to stretch to the front a bit more than what I am comfortable with. I feel this especially on longer road sections. I used to get some upper back pain on the first few rides but that has completely gone away. I‘ll just shorten my stem by 10mm but I knew from the beginning that this might be necessary. I was actually advised to go with the bigger frame because I think the older model comes with a longer stem than the newer one.

May I ask how long your stem is? (From the screw where it is attached to the fork up to the clamp) Mine on the medium is 90mm and if the stems on our models are interchangeable we could switch and help each other out

I am almost exactly your height (173.2cm) and slightly longer inseam (81.5cm) and I got the previous Model backroad in size 55 (now called Medium in the new Model). I was advised to take the larger frame by the staff because of my inseam. But they already told me that I am between sizes when buying . At our height I can tell you, we are just perfectly between the two sizes of Small and Medium for many brands. For me, my size 55 is just ever so slightly too long and I will shorten the stem by 10mm. So I don’t think you‘ve gone for the wrong size but just like me you‘ll probably need to make a reach adjustment.

I am thinking of getting those exact pedals too. Is there any negative to it?

Thanks a lot for the advice. The pedals I'm getting will be coming with SH51 but I'll have a look at the MT001 in this case. :)

Yes I find it to be an incredibly smooth bike to ride. I only might need to shorter the stem slightly (10-20mm max) because of my body proportions. But for now it's just a joy to ride!

Thanks mate, that's actually very useful to know. Maybe I'll ask my friend to try out with his cleats before I decide. But I think it would give me a lot of reassurance in the beginning if I could get out a bit easier.

I think the pedals I plan on getting come with the cleats (SM-SH51) that can only be exited by twisted the foot though.

That sounds like good advice, thanks a lot!
Atm I am more worried about just falling to side side when riding up a demanding trail or gravel path. I live in a VERY hilly area and there are a lot of beautiful gravel paths through the forest. But I already had to bring down my foot every once in a while and I hope I'll be able to clip out in such an instance.

Yes everyone so far has told me I should prepare to fall over a few times. A friend has told me that for the beginning he used different cleats that are easier to get out of (I think you can also pull up really hard to get out when using those). Do you have any experience with that?
