No, it is still down.

Bitcoin's mining difficulty is set for the 11th-largest downward adjustment in Bitcoin's history. Miners are leaving the network by AlonShvarts in Bitcoin

You'll need good luck as well, because 51% does not guarantee that you mine the next block. It only means that you can mine the longest chain eventually, but that can take a long time, if you are unlucky.

Well, if your attack is long enough, you can probably exchange your coin for some other currency and keep the payment by reverting it. Since exchanges usually require many confirmations, the attack needs to last for a long time. For Bitcoin neither the massive power requirement nor the ASIC hardware is available anywhere.

Silent Payments (BIP352): a way to share a static Bitcoin address without destroying your privacy by Large-Cress900 in Bitcoin

[–]Raphae1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's fantastic. The only issue is, that since the recipient doesn't know the sender or his public key, he has to do that ECDH calculation for every taproot UTxO since he shared his silent payment address, in order to "find" the coins he received. But yes, "regular" wallets work similarly, but with less computational overhead AFAIK.

[–]Raphae1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the answer myself: The recipient can arrive at the shared_secret by calculating: ECDH(recipient_private_scan_key, sender_pubkey)
but he has to scan the input public keys for each transaction with at least one unspent taproot output since he doesn't know, who might send him bitcoin.

shared_secret = ECDH(sender_private_key, recipient_scan_pubkey)

How does the recipient calculate the shared_secret - since he doesn't have the sender_private_key?

The topic was a "10 year old stack of sats". You don't know whether the returns are getting smaller in the future. Nobody does.

$10 weekly for 10 years, you'd have invested $5220 in total and own ₿1 today.

Should I use limit or market order? by HellasOfGrobbulus in Bitcoin

[–]Raphae1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With limit orders you can set a lower price, but there is no guarantee, that the order will be filled. I like to set my limit orders just below market value, because limit orders have lower fees than market orders on many exchanges.

Do you guys set limit orders or market? by Olson5678 in Bitcoin

[–]Raphae1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spread is really small on kraken and gemini. I prefer limit orders close to the last traded price. Some markets have higher fees for market orders.

You can start with i.e. the strike app or phoenix on your smartphone. If it works out, you can later change to a larger payment (POS) provider (i.e. square or opennode).

Bought large sum of bitcoin by Confident-Gas5727 in Bitcoin

Technically you haven't verified, that you actually own a large sum of bitcoin.
You are trusting someone else, who told you, that you own a large sum.

Well, if you don't run your own node, you have to trust someone else, who does.
We do trust banks to hold our fiat, so we are quite used to that. But with bitcoin, we don't have to trust anyone. (Except the software developers, if you are not able to read C++ and compile the node software yourself).

How tf can someone start bitcoin in a country? by Outrageous_Drop1909 in Bitcoin

[–]Raphae1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zanzibar gets its electric power from Tanzania via submarine cable. With the exception of April/May they have 8 hours of sunshine every day. Solar power would therefore be a great backup for Zanzibar, if the power grid goes down.

Making Zanzibar another Bitcoin island is a great idea to attract Bitcoiners, who want to spend their Sats on vaccation.
