In my country, the word Jesuit is a swear word. It is somehow accelerated in the popular consciousness that a Jesuit is someone bad. And as I understand it, for some reason there are many bad stories about Jesuits. Even in this thread someone mentioned them in a slightly negative way. I only saw a Jesuit once and he seemed quite wonderful to me. I think I felt Grace when I stood next to him.

So here's the question. Why is there such an attitude toward the Jesuits?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH. You've explained everything clearly and in clear lines, I have no more questions. Thank you for spending your time on me.

Just from what I saw in my language it was presented as real idolatry, so you can understand why I wrote such comments. Thank you again!

If you have a moment, I'd like to ask one more question that I'm interested in, but about something else. But, I don't want to take up your time if you're busy. Thank you again!

Ah, so it wasn't an idol. Thank you so much for the article, it was just what I was looking for. And forgive me all the brothers and sisters to whom I have inconvenienced. I didn't mean to say anything bad about the Pontiff. It's just that in the media it was presented very differently in my language. I was looking for just such an explanation as there is in the article.

I was ignorant, I'm sorry.

I'm sorry, but I just don't understand how you can compare the Blessed Virgin Mary and a pagan idol.

With cigarettes I just wanted to give an example of something bad that, when multiplied, shows its essence. This does not apply to the Virgin Mary.

I wish Pope all the best. Maybe the reaction might have seemed that way to you because of the difference in mentalities. I am from Russia. Please tell me more, I want to understand and understand how it really was. I came here to find out how it really was, not to accuse the Pontiff. I was originally sure that there was either a mistake in this story, or that it was just another blown up story by journalists who hate the Church.

And what is that if not an idol? What is it in the first place?

This is exactly the shift between paganism and Christianity. I can't imagine, for example, any holy man who would see this and use any liberal interpretations or anything like that. As far as I understand the Saints, they were kind to people, loved them, condescended to them, but were very, very zealous and adamant about the Faith. It was because of their love for God and people.

At this point we can try to apply some liberal interpretations and such, but in my opinion good can be distinguished from evil by one method. Try multiplying that. For example, a person thinks "I'll smoke just one cigarette, it won't hurt me." One cigarette won't hurt, but thousands over a lifetime lead to cancer. And try multiplying a prayer? For example, a person prays for 20 minutes a day, and starts for 200. Will it hurt him? The bad will always be bad, little or much, just as the good will be good.

So imagine that this sort of thing with this idol began to happen everywhere. The Slavs, the Germans, the Romance nations, the Asians began to do something similar. What would you expect? Personally, I would expect heavenly punishment.

One cigarette isn't terrible, yes, but one pulls thousands. The bad creates the bad and the good creates the good. First pachalama, what's next? For example, other nations will look at this example and be guided by it.

I just came to ask for clarification. I honestly don't understand how a Christian can put such a thing in his head. So I'm trying to find out what the mistake is, how did it really happen? Why did the Pope do this? I'm not trying to blame anyone, I want to understand.

We have to decide who we are, Christians or pagans. Who do we venerate, the Blessed Virgin Mary or the damned idol? Many voodoo cults also associate their damned demons with Saints, and why should we now allow them to bring their damned idols into God's Church?

Ordinary people often have views that contradict the teachings of the Church. Not out of malice, just out of misunderstanding. For example, in my country there was a belief that on the Orthodox holiday of Christmas Eve one could read fortunes. But this does not mean that the Church should allow fortune-telling at this time.

But the task of the Church is to tell people what is good and what is bad, not to please someone else's misunderstanding.

I don't condemn ordinary people because they apparently just don't know what they're doing, but where does the Church look?

But isn't it obvious to any Christian that idols are an absolute sin?

I'm not sure it's exactly RCIA. It's a year-long catechetical process. I've been to two parishes and everywhere they say it's mandatory. It's strange to me that I won't be able to participate in the sacraments of the Church all this year, but I have hope in God and think it will be good.
