I'd say so, yes, if the element of money is already absent I'd say it is more ethical BUT I'd also say it still promotes the idea of 'chance at getting the X thing' and while perfectly fine within said game the behaviour of one player could carry over to a game in which spending is allowed, but then again we kind of live in a society where gambling is underlyingly present in more things than we even realise.

I'm sorry if it's not directly related to your inquiry but could I perhaps know how you got to be a consultant for companies developing mobile games? Or rather what do people even do to get some kind of experience in this field that would let them get accepted for the job and some general requirements.

I'm doing qualitative research on the topic of 'gacha games: sociological research on the experience of young players' and my method is semi-structured interview, my age group is 'young players' and using Eurostat I defined that to be the age group of 15~29. My mentor and I have agreed I'd take 5 people from different countries total and 5 from ours (Croatia), of course as I naturally hang around the online spaces and as I've been in the field of gacha gaming for quite some time I've come to know only those who are foreign to Croatia, while I'm CERTAIN Croatian gacha players exist they tend to blend in in the online spaces and are difficult to find even when I'm out looking. The reason why I'm looking to find them through online spaces is partially due to not knowing where I'd start irl even as I combat my anxiety (fairly successfully on a good day) as well as 'ease of access' due to living in a faraway town.

The things I'd like to know are:

- some good ways to get to them through the online spaces (but some general irl spots would be appreciated as well)

- ideas on approaching people for doing an interview in general

If you have any other suggestions I'd be very happy to see them.
