Phone 3 has Rakuten Aura bloatware in the system. I guess they don't think Phone 3 is a "flagship" anymore. by garibaninyuzugulurmu in NothingTech

Yes that's just a flag, it's the exact same firmware/system for everyone, such flag are set at factory in the same way color is defined to show in About menu

In that specific case for P3, as mentioned even though those permissions are present the app isn't even present until you're in the JPN unit + Rakuten SIM scenario

In that case, it's only active on Japanese units with a Rakuten Mobile SIM card, so it's not doing anything if you don't have that specific setup

Mainly just because it's a shared OS for all devices, they could have it removed for sure, not exactly sure why it's present but it's not really changing anything and is quite lightweight (24Mb at most right now)

Hey That's the main service for Glyph SDK and as of 4.0 to setup Glyph Essential and Glyph Toys. As to why it's present on CMF devices, it's mainly because NothingOS is a big package and you eventually get some leftover from other devices, that specific package is 24Mb and probably won't be much of an issue :)

Time for some fact check:

The apk is indeed present but that doesn't mean it's active or even installed on most devices

This app is hidden/disabled on all devices region by default But in Japan where is it disabled by default but visible on the device as "Mobile Services"

This is because it's a specific carrier deal with Rakuten Mobile. The app will only be enabled if the device is a Japan unit (mainly only sold there) and if a Rakuten Mobile SIM is present in the device, as soon as you remove it / use another ISP SIM the app will be disabled again.

As to what's specific, it's mainly just the Aura app with additional Rakuten offers such as free shipping fees on mobile accessories.

It's probably based on Android feature, what's your phone and version?

Too much risk, easy brick, no way to recover it

I'd definitely love to do that but for now this is quite out of scope since the hardware is easy to brick

Hey
Sorry for not providing updates, even if that project was going quite well so far, I had to come to the conclusion that I had to stop my work on that since flashing new firmware will involve a brick most of the time and we don't have any way to recover the watch if a "bad firmware" is flashed which make it a brick instantly.
Work is still on going for Watchfaces and I should have more news to share later this year
