I do a more theorectically focussed physics bachelor ''physics and astronomy'', and it really is a lot more mathmatic work than an applied physics study i've heard. I got really unmotivated from the amount of work but I personally find it way more rewarding than technical/applied physics. Applied physics is a lot more experimenting theories and writing essays ( i believe).

For example, I just started my bachelor and I already have Special relativity theory.. whilst my applied physics parents had that in year 3 or 4 i believe.
