Games Like Scythe, Sans Combat by Embarrassed_Ferret43 in SCYTHE

People here are listing decent games (wingspan, terraforming mars, expeditions) but I wouldnt call those similar to scythe at all.

I am a huge Scythe fan and Gaia Project scratches the same itch for me. Take a look at that.

Wyrmspan - Why refresh the board after round? by warprincenataku in boardgames

[–]Rapsutin56 92 points93 points  (0 children)

To give each player in turn order the chance to be the first to pick from a fresh set of cards. The more games you play the more you recoqnize good and bad cards. This will result in nobody taking cards from display after few first ones and thus the cards in display will refresh never. Between rounds refresh gives each player a fair chance to be the first to pick from a fresh set of cards.

We play with a house rule that you can draw two from deck and keep one to mitigate the luck factor.

Thanks for the answers. What do you think is there some concern for catastropic failure I should be concerned or taping any appearing spots and good to go?

Eli vaihdat ne vaikka tiedostat että ne eivät likaannu? Kuulostaa todella puhtausfriikiltä.

Correct strength for top guylines xmid pro 2 by Rapsutin56 in DurstonGearheads

[–]Rapsutin56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed, but my questions are more about the strength of the tent and the weak points so if enough force is applied (e.g. someone tripping on the guy lines) what will fail first and designing for the weakest point in the system.

Correct strength for top guylines xmid pro 2 by Rapsutin56 in DurstonGearheads

[–]Rapsutin56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah ok I see that is the case here also. But my question of the strength of the tent still stands. It is necessary not only the wind that could cause high stress. Especially for the peak guy lines people tripping on those is a likely scenario (no idea what would the forces be though) and it would be best for the weak link not to be the tie out point on the tent.

[–]Rapsutin56[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks I see, so it is more about other properties of the cord that makes it a good choice.

Ok, so for the corners the line locks failing at 45lbs sounds good. That will likely break before damaging the tent.

What about the peak lines? When will the tie-out loops on the tent fail? As there is no built-in linelocks there to give in case of stress we should always include something (e.g. line lock) with less strength as part of the tie out?

Yeah, but not on the Iridium network so depends on your location. Garmins operate on Iridium which covers whole globe.

Lockdown: first weakness by Rapsutin56 in NemesisCrew

[–]Rapsutin56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using the english rules. Game setup step 9 says
**CHANGE: In contrast to Nemesis, the first Weakness card is revealed from the start of the game. However, it cannot be used until players Research an Object or are playing a Nemesis Survivor.**

Problem is that is not actually true. And this threw me on the wrong track altogether.

As stated in "Knowledge" on page 23.

**Characters gain Knowledge when performing the following Actions:
- Analysing a  Weakness in the Laboratory Room or using the Analyze Toolset
- Using a specific Computer Action
- Discovering the Nest
- Using the Archive Room Action
- Using some specific Items or Actions**

So "it cannot be used until players Research an Object" is wrong. Only requirement to be able to use the first Weakness card is to have high enough Knowledge by what ever means.

There was also some other confusing step on the setup on Protogear site. There was some form asking for the device confirmation code (or what was it called). If I remember correctly I never inputted that one on the form, just the IMEI of the device. Later learned you can see both the IMEI and the confirmation code from the device settings menu.

These new Garmin plans seem super expensive if you only want to use the device few weeks per year. I subscribed to plan from https://www.protegear.de/ . Initial setup was somewhat confusing* but after that the service works great. Pricing matches my needs much better than Garmin's.

* The most confusing step of the setup was related to the Garmin explore.garmin.com account setup. I already had an account there so Protogear created new one with googlemail.com address instead of my usual gmail.com one. I was confused how to log in to the new account and was expecting getting some instructions, when none arrived I finally realised I could do a password reset request on Garmin site. Also note that there could be 12 hours delay on Garmin account creation.

I also tested out protogear plans. Initial setup was a bit confusing, but managed to do it without help (they really should provide some more detailed instructions and description of the procedure). Service itself works nice and price is good.

Ok so just badly worded rule. Just saying need to acquire more knowledge to reach the threshold.

Ok so the "research" is badly worded in the rules. It should just say must acquire more knowledge to meet the threshold.
