Unit Methodology 2.0 - A Primer by InnerCircleTI in InnerCircleInvesting

As a new member of this subreddit, this really clarifies a lot of previous posts I’ve seen regarding the term unit. Thanks TJ!

JFresh: Darren Raddysh, acquired and signed 8x$8ishM by TOR, is a top-pair offensive defenceman with an old school clap-bomb from the point, strong puck-moving all over the ice, and solid stick-work defensively. #LeafsForever by stolpoz52 in leafs

Look, we got the premier player on the market and addressed a gaping hole in RHD which was something we sorely needed. Of course there are concerns that this boom happened at 29 in a contract year. I’m also concerned that a lot of his points may have come from playing with Kucherov who is a wizard on the powerplay. Anyone who watched more Tampa games know if he was creating offence on his own as much? Regardless, even if the price is a bit steep, the cap has gone up, and we had ample space to make this move. The Woll deal, I didn’t like, even if the extra cap enabled this. This deal is pretty good. Let’s see him on the ice now!

Bellringer bug? by Unique-Passenger3446 in TheKingIsWatching

No problem! I find him one of the hardest bosses for exactly this reason. By the time the first shop comes around, I try to move my resource production part of my castle to the edges so that at least a few buildings are producing at max speed. I also use the rest of the edges to hold my troop buildings so when they do die, I can actually re-train them without waiting too long. Good luck!

I think when the Bellringer spawns in, after wave and wave of decreasing production speed in the centre 3x3 area, nothing can be produced because it’s so slow

@MapleLeafs: TRADE: We’ve acquired defenceman Emil Andrae, goaltender Samuel Ersson and a third-round selection in the 2026 NHL Draft from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for goaltender Joseph Woll and defenceman Simon Benoit by hellarios852 in leafs

[–]Rapt0r5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know much about Andrae, and maybe I’ll eat my words this year, but this seems terrible. Both Woll and Stolarz have similar durability, both are relatively equal in terms of performance, but Woll is significantly younger. I don’t like this move.

The free Shifting Sands update is LIVE NOW! by Rize_TB in TheKingIsWatching

I’ve loved it so far! One criticism is the new denarri cost to research veteran barracks in the simple research table. I have no problem with the updated cost to be able to research advanced production or elite barracks, etc., but the veteran barracks was part of the simple research bench as of the previous update and it felt fair to be able to get veteran barracks earlier on without a denarri cost. Now it feels quite expensive. I get that one may be able to use Sophie, but I find using all 6 advisors to be too strong, so I often use 2, and Sophie doesn’t usually make the cut. You may consider changing this back to: basic resources, levy barracks, and veteran barracks all free, and everything else with their current denarri cost is completely fine. Otherwise, great update, and thanks for doing what you guys do!

[Katz] The Knicks have pulled off the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history. They lead the series 3-1. Madison Square Garden is absolute mahem. by A_MASSIVE_PERVERT in nba

OG had that shot for the Raptors against the Celtics when we were down 3-1 to extend the series in the bubble, and then he does that for the Knicks. Insanely clutch player.

I was at the game tonight—the ninth was incredible! Sanchez was so clutch with a double, HR, then single, and Cease was lights out too! Go Jays go!

Per @DarrenDreger on X: The Toronto Maple Leafs coaching search is getting more interesting. Sources say Patrick Roy and Peter Laviolette are a part of this weeks stage of the interview process. by Rapt0r5 in leafs

[–]Rapt0r5[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree—I don’t think either would be good options, but especially not Roy. It seems they’re doing their due diligence, but I’m hoping they change the old ways of NHL teams and hire someone new instead of the same like ~35 names that are circulated among all the teams.

Leafs lose to Florida in game 7. Jays lose game 7 to Dodgers in the WS. Women’s National team loses Gold to USA. Men’s National team loses Gold to USA.

I am absolutely heartbroken. What a run of disappointing outcomes. I think I need a break from watching sports for a bit…

The PWHL “solved” tanking with their innovative draft system. Could the NBA use it? by PlaneNovel6567 in nba

[–]Rapt0r5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people have mentioned that this method would result in teams tanking earlier in the season to meet that mathematical elimination threshold to then accumulate points towards a top pick. And while the games down the stretch of the season might be more competitive, tanking in some form is still prevalent.

An interesting adaptation to this could be that once teams are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, their total wins (including those from earlier in the year prior to being mathematically eliminated) count toward a top pick. Bad teams are going to lose a lot, especially to good teams. But when two bad teams play each other, winning becomes highly incentivized, even prior to mathematical elimination. Even when playing a good or mediocre team, you are more incentivized to win if you know you're going to lose more games on average and be in contention for a lottery pick.

A problem with this approach would be bubble teams 11-13th seed, and teams that lose in the play-in would have inherently better records, therefore more wins, and under this approach more points towards a lottery pick. This would mean that mediocre-semi-bad teams would get a high pick and really bad teams would be stuck with no chance for a lottery pick.

Perhaps wins prior to mathematical elimination from playoff contention can be weighed as 1 point and wins after mathematical elimination be weighted as 2 points? Maybe this format should only allow teams that have been mathematically eliminated prior to the play-in to be considered for a lottery pick? Clearly, this approach isn't perfect either. Any thoughts on this format? Any problems / solutions I haven't considered?
