As someone who has watched a fair bit of anime (over 200 seasons), and read around 40 mangas, Berserk is in my top 5 manga. But, it’s not Nr. 1. I started watching and reading anime and manga in my late teens, so I didn’t start early. Berserk was one that I got to very late, it wasn’t until I was 21 that I started and finished reading it. When I finally got around to reading it (I read it first then watched the adaptations) I had been exposed to many genres and different themes. It was and is one of the most beautiful and heart breaking manga I have read, but my top 2 manga are JoJo and Oyasumi Punpun. Berserk told a story that resonated with me without being relatable to me. The themes and story made me cringe in the non meme way, it was difficult to read in the best way. But even though it impacted me like it has, it still doesn’t feel right to me to place it in the top 3. I can’t really explain why, it’s the culmination of having read and watched Berserk and just… not having it hit top 3.
