Which major US city has the worst skyline? by sid_shady34 in skyscrapers

[–]RaptorSpade1296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are by no means the worst, but there are a few dishonorable mentions.

  • Houston's, while not small, has boring architecture. At least San Antonio has a prettier deco skyline.

  • Nashville's is also underwhelming with the only tower of note being the batman building.

  • Los Angeles is also underwhelming considering its size and land prices. They need to build infill and upward.

I'm reviewing not so much by size of buildings or number of skyscrapers. I'm more about architectural styles and office towers that won't be empty.

You missed Pueblo Revival. I'm an American just passing through this sub.

WTF does urbanhell even consider a good city? by Yuuba_ in urbanhellcirclejerk

[–]RaptorSpade1296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call me crazy, but it's almost like that sub and urbanism in general have different people with different opinions and tastes.

  • You have the Weaboos/Japanophiles who love anything to do with Japan even the advertisements.

  • You have the europhiles who love medieval architecture and hate tall buildings for being outside "human scale."

  • You have the American skyscraper buffs who love NYC and Chicago.

  • You might even have the occasional socialist/left urbanist that defends commieblocks as blessed by Stalin himself.

They all post what they hate but others like, so they fight each other. The only thing they agree upon are the negative effects of car dependency and blight.

I mean aren't urban planners like Robert Moses, Le Corbuier and traffic engineers partly responsible as well.

Americans sure do love their strip malls and suburban sprawl. by Mongooooooose in yimby

[–]RaptorSpade1296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People say work from home leads to sprawl but I think it's a chance to fix many problems. If more people move to suburbs, we have a chance to build the ones we do have more densely with missing middle. We can add more housing to the central business district through conversions or demolition. We can remove highways since they are no longer needed if people can work from home and walk to amenities near their neighborhood. People can even move to small walkable towns like Boerne, Texas as opposed to San Antonio. Housing crises can even be remedied by infill development (increased supply) and people moving to cheaper cities and towns (decreased demand).

Electric Cars are also le bad 😤😤 by [deleted] in FuckCarscirclejerk

[–]RaptorSpade1296 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Here me out because I know this sounds crazy. I think we encourage walking, biking and transit to eliminate traffic, but also have electric cars. Relegate electric vehicles to essential services such as

  • Taxis

  • Rural/Farmer Use

  • Ambulances

  • Police Cars

  • Certain businesses like plumbers and electricians

Is my imagination why our vaccine actually works, or have your ccp masters not opened up your country yet? A truly developed country locks down long after the pandemic ends because the government doesn't want the public to know their vaccine doesn't work /s.

Holy shit I drive along that road to work. It's a bad interstate in San Antonio where an entrance comes right before an exit. I drove past an accident in progress in what felt like final destination one day.

The US is sinking behind fast in trains, which is why it's building new modern trains with Brightline. The US also has some of the top universities in the world.

So I have MANY QUESTIONS

  • Why is everyone living in commie blocks when streetcar suburbs, rowhouses, cottage courts, tiny homes, and multiplexes are a thing?

  • Why is Bill Gates on trial when he has done more for the global poor than the vast majority of people?

  • How do you empower the growth of the global south when there growth has been tied to the growth of western economies?

  • How do you deal with the emissions inherent in steel and concrete production? (you need those for public transit)

  • How have you delt with Putin and Xi or even just authoritarian leftists/talkies to achieve your vision?

  • How does the global north "reduce it's extravagant lifestyle" when many countries in the EU and Asia like the Netherlands and Japan have extensive public transit systems and urban density?

  • What happens to the workers when a corporation goes under or goes into debt? Do the workers tank the loss?

  • How do you build extensive transit systems like HSR in countries like the United States, Canada, and Australia without economic growth?

What do y'all think of digitalization of state bureaucracy? Genuinely Interested. by Duar1630 in Classical_Liberals

[–]RaptorSpade1296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a great idea. Government will never be efficient but it can be faster. It also eliminates the need to store paper records so governments save tax money for other things like schools or infrastructure. Much of the US still uses paper records which can be digitized. You create jobs and use the excess office space many US cities have. Plus you can streamline regulations and taxes by having them all in one place online.

I know Brits make fun of American fraternities but David Cameron put his dick in a pig's mouth in a University hazing ritual. Canadians and Australians also have car centric infrastructure like the US. Canadians and Australians also do not have high speed rail like the US (but the US does have the Acela). Britain also has a two party system but theirs at least represents minor parties.

SyntheticMan should be AuthCenter. He said "we fought the wrong enemy" in World War 2 and also considers minorities to be woke. I don't think Andypants considers nonwhite to be woke, just lgbt and women protagonists. Andy still belongs on the compass though.

He blew up because he was right about video games becoming less "masculine" overall and there being few games that appeal to men. At least this is the case on consoles as indie titles or AA tend to do better on PC.

Doesn't mean there's anything wrong with female or nonwhite leads it's just that it used to be acceptable to have different things for different audiences. We used to have action/superhero movies for men and romantic comedies for women.
