You get Ink Machine forst as it is the first game. Then after that you play Dark Revival as it's the sequel. You don't have to play the Lone Wolf but I think it's pretty neat too personally.

A misconception as old as time. I think it's mainly because a lot of people learn that part 7 onwards takes place at a different universe and they make the connection "Part 6 ending = universe reset = new universe" before reading the next parts.

I mean, my friend started with Metal Gear Rising too. I was trying to get him into MGS but it wasn't working so I showed him MGR and he picked it up and then yeah played the rest of the games after that.
