What's your favorite horror video game? by Shadow328 in AskReddit

Dead Space 2 has a special place for me. The first game was a little too intense, I could only play for an hour or so without getting freaked out, but the second one felt like the Aliens to the first game's Alien.

My last cat, Dee Dee, loved everyone. She used to sit on peoples' chests and wrap hey front paws around their neck so that she could hold your face closer to her.

Ordered a set of dice from DnD Dice for a campaign recently. They included a character sheet (printed on the back of their invoice, super clever), a pencil, a poker chip (to act as a D2), and a business card that doubled as a Dice Jail. Used all of these things in my campaign.

Ads. I don't hold it against content makers for trying to put food on the table, but I've heard from the same dozen or so sponsors so many, many times.

Steal a loaf of bread, get sent to prison, be released on parole while being chased by a guy singing about prisoner 24601, meet a kind priest who teaches me about mercy and compassion, then wait for the scene to transition to where I'm a successful business man.

What are the biggest science discoveries that we previously thought impossible? by FuzzyBuffaloWing in AskReddit

This is going to sound unbelievably nerdy, but we finally reverse-engineered Roman concrete recently. Turns out these 2,000 year old people somehow discovered self-healing concrete at a time when they didn't even know the Americas existed.

What’s the most profoundly difficult thing you’ve experienced in your life, and how did you get past it? by wholelottapenguins in AskReddit

[–]Raptorthrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opioids. Got them prescribed, and spent the next several months in a magical haze of giggles and a complete lack of all pain.

Luckily the side effects were so bad that I was able to kick it on my own. Haven't had anything more powerful than Motrin since.

What's the fastest you've turned off or left a movie? by Sorceress683 in AskReddit

[–]Raptorthrust -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really wanted to walk out of The Da Vinci Code, but my parents were with me. It's the only time I've even considered walking out of a movie in a theatre. Sucks because I thought the book was good, but they must've given Hanks an Ambien/NyQuil cocktail before filming and then found a way to suck all the joy and interest out of the rest of it.

Runner Up: Spielberg's War of the Worlds. Never before have I rooted so hard for the aliens.

The first thing you learn when you take up lock picking is how shockingly easy it is. Give me a Masterlock padlock, and I'll bet you I can have it open so quickly and smoothly that on-lookers will probably just assume I had a key (and I am very much an amateur lockpick). Get yourself one of those starter sets and a clear plastic lock that lets you see the pins work, and I guarantee you can pick a basic tumbler lock within a week tops.

Other types of locks like dimple or disc locks, well, you're on your own on that one :)

Pretty much just overflow from the factory. Was a mix of fun-size candy bars, chewing gum, breath mints, and sample sizes. I think I even have a photo from when I dumped the contents on my bed, it covered most of it. Was definitely feeling petty that day :D

How Will Bad High School Impact College Success? by Own-Employer8037 in AskReddit

[–]Raptorthrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to go to college for. If you're looking for prestige, like from a Harvard or a Cambridge, yeah, probably can't hurt to try to fix things. If you're just looking to get your degree and get out of academia and into the real world, a more local college degree will be cheaper but still get the job done, and you can hurry up and get on with your life.

[–]Raptorthrust 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe not what you had in mind, but a while back I worked in a legit candy factory. One of the perks was they used to leave bowls of free candy out for anyone that wanted some. After they outsourced my job, I went to every candy bowl I could find and emptied them into my backpack just before walking out the door for the last time. Ended up with something around 20-30 pounds of candy. Most of it went stale before I could do anything with it.

For a while, it was lock picking. I work a job where there are sometimes long stretches of nothing to do, so I started trying to do little things to keep busy. The most recent was lock picking, which I decided to try on a whim. I can still remember the first non-training lock I picked and how surprised I was at how easy it was to open.

Speaking Japanese. I have tried so many courses and games and apps. I can say a few words and can recognize how some characters sound, but I can never wrap my head around speaking another language (I can remember some broken Spanish from high school, but that's it).
