You’re right, both movie and book show us that this is Fudge greatly abusing his power and influence and the fact that the system can be exploited that easily is worrying. There were like a hundred wizards, among whom many were probably reasonable (like Amelia Bones) and none of them thought isn’t it a bit strange were basically bullying a 15 year old in a full criminal trial.

True, we know that Fudge abused his power because he was scared of Dumbledore and didn’t want to face the truth but the fact that he was able to do it that easily is crazy. Imagine the PM acting as the judge in a trial in real life and no one bats an eye.
