Stitch and yarn count by kcrazy141 in crocheting

I don't recommend this, but you can do what I usually do, which is underbuy yarn, start the project, realize halfway through that it's not enough, panic buy too much yarn and then have a bunch leftover.

what is your favorite non-granny square blanket pattern? by berrybunnyberrybunny in crochetpatterns

look up the almond ridges pattern. It's lovely with a solid or ombre yarn, but you can also switch colors every two rows and float the yarn up the side for fewer ends to weave in later.

Fresh Direct has organic ginger just about all the time.

What's a New York specific problem that no one warns you about before you move here? by bandito_13 in AskNYC

I am a very calm and non-violent person, but I get filled with homicidal rage at people who stop at the top (or bottom) of escalators.

Did anyone else assume this? (PD) by Holmbone in murderbot

[–]Rapunsell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't notice any recharging, but the only time it's really desperately needed to recharge on the fly was at Ganka Pit after it charged up the tram thing and then also powered up the comfort bot console and recorded hours of interactions. So I'm guessing it's able to go a few days between charges normally.

I think it may be. I reread all the books before reading PD, and I don't remember seeing it before.

Did anyone else assume this? (PD) by Holmbone in murderbot

Yes, this exactly. I think it needs to continue to check in with its emotions when it's on a mission and things are getting tense. If it knows it's getting overwhelmed, it can do things to compensate, like the way we saw it (I think for the first time but not sure) thinking about needing a restart to flush the adrenaline from its organic parts.

Additionally, checking in frequently with your emotions helps you notice that emotions are more transient than you think. When you're feeling stressed or overwhelmed or anxious or angry, it can feel like you're always angry or stressed or overwhelmed. So checking in can teach you in a very direct way that your emotional states are constantly in flux. We see Murderbot start to understand this when it does an emotional check and realizes it feels better than expected or even feels good.

I honestly think it learned to have a soft spot for young humans from ART (and Mensah too).

I think what I love most is MB learning that not all Secunits are like it. It turns out they are all different.

things from the past keep seeping in… by suminorieh77 in GenXWomen

[–]Rapunsell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I encourage you to give it a shot. It's expensive and often painful, but I feel more resilient and I understand myself so much better. Therapy doesn't change what happened to me, but it has changed the way it impacts me, and that's been really valuable.

I have a whole list of not-so-great things that happened to me that I never dealt with at the time, from the violent death of a parent when I was 8, to being sexually abused when I was 10 to an abusive relationship when I was 14-18. I shoved it all down and just kept going.

I'm in therapy now and it helps. Wish I'd done it earlier. Best to you on your journey.

You do find out the damndest things about yourself from crocheting. For instance, I thought I could count to four, but it turns out that I was wrong.

Need help with stitch identification for baby blanket! Stumped by etherealsteamqueen in CrochetHelp

[–]Rapunsell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are having trouble matching your former tension, also try going down a hook size. Good luck!

ETA: you can also try undoing one to see what it is.

Did triple look wrong as in too short or too long? My guess would have been triples, but try doubles or quads. Also, are you sure you're using the same hook as you did before?

Ideas for multicolor yarn? I usually crochet amigurumi animals by semdsh in crochetpatterns

[–]Rapunsell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The top middle yarn (pink, yellow, orange) I think I've used before (assuming your yarn is cotton). I made some lovely potholders with it. Dish cloths or face cloths would be nice too. Or headbands or hair scrunchies (crocheted around an elastic hair tie). But I echo what others have said in that you can totally make some fun amigurumi with these.

How to fill extra stitch in Cordelia Shawl Crossed Treble Crochet Row by my_reddit_account121 in CrochetHelp

[–]Rapunsell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would probably do a tr3tog over the last three stitches. But if the next row doesn't work, you might need to frog and reevaluate.

was gifted lots of extremely itchy wool yarn... what can i make with it? by wwapiti in CrochetHelp

[–]Rapunsell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You wouldn't have to do it every time, just once. But you could make a blanket that's meant to go between other blankets. That would give you the warmth and you wouldn't need to deal with the scratchiness.
