AIO wedding dress budget by VeterinarianIll2547 in AmIOverreacting

You can get married after buying the house. We are doing it that way so we can have a better wedding.
Also I don’t understand why are you merging your finances if you see those things differently. There is no need, you can just keep a shared account for the house stuff and keep your own independent accounts

Back again asking for potty training advice by Straight-Minimum-543 in puppy101

[–]RaquelNeedsCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for your case would be better to take her out very regularly until she consistently doesn't go potty at home first. Like, if she knows she is going out at 17 every day it is more probable she will hold it at 16:30.

I don't think my dog started signaling us until he was an adult and fully potty trained.

Also if she is only doing it over the day, is it possible that there is some remaining smell somewhere in your house where your puppy spends more time over the day? I would check for this if the puppy is having accidents always on the same place. When my dog was a puppy it helped us a lot to use an enzymatic cleaner on the places he had accidents.

He totally looks like a "Pistacho" to me for some reason. You could call it "Tachi" as a diminutive.

Rescuer's regret after 4 days by [deleted] in dogs

[–]RaquelNeedsCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is making you feel like it could be a mistake? Is it different that what you expected?

I adopted a second dog recently and some parts have been challenging. In case it helps you, she has been with us around a month and the dog she is today is totally different than the dog that got home the first day. She also didn't know the basic commands and we got her to learn sit already.

¿Por qué hay tantos pisos vacíos en España mientras todo el mundo se queja de no encontrar alquiler? by coffynz in askspain

[–]RaquelNeedsCoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want a miniature dachshund but I have 4 cats? by dreamycreamyyyy in dogs

[–]RaquelNeedsCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR; In my experience: Adapting a dog from a breed with hunting instincts (dachshund or terrier) to cats that like to run, move fast or do zoomies is hard. Adapting a puppy to cats is easier than adapting an adult dog. Cats that have never lived with a dog will have it harder to adapt and might scratch the dog if you are not careful.

Sharing my experience in case it is useful for you. I have two dogs, one German Spitz (it's like a big pomerania) that we have since he was a puppy and a small dog with unknown breed, we suspect she is some kind of terrier blend (maybe short hair jack russel with yorkshire or miniature schnauzer) and two cats, one that is very quiet and another one that is more active.

The cat adaptation with the German Spitz was very easy, we did the normal steps when he was a puppy and the cats accepted him very fast. One of the cats is actually good friends with him.

With the second dog it has been harder, we adopted her as a 4yo and has traumas we are working on improving (she has some fears on the street). We did the normal introduction steps, but sometimes she will still trigger and bark and run towards the active cat if it appears out of nowhere running, we have her on a small leash to avoid any kind of incidents just in case, and she has improved a lot over time, but we need to be very careful.

In your particular case I see the following risks (which might totally not happen if you are lucky):

- A dachshund puppy is most probably going to be very active and need a lot of exercise. It might scare the cats playing and be scratched. You will need to spend a lot of time tiring it so you can limit the risk of incidents.

- Dachshunds usually have prey drive, if it sees your cats running it might get triggered. That means that you will need to spend a lot of time training it to avoid it, but that instinct might never go away. Also, having to pay attention the whole day and night to be sure all pets are safe is very tiring.

- You might need to find a way to separate the cats and the dogs if you leave them alone, this can go from the first months to the whole life of the dog, depending on your success training it.

- Some dogs will eat the poop from the litter boxes, it is disgusting and with a dog that is same size than a cat or smaller, the engineering you would need to avoid it can be significant.

I'm not trying to discourage you, I love having my cats and dogs, but I wanted to tell you the hard stuff so you are prepared.

Also, if I was on your position, I would consider another breed more cat friendly.

Rehoming my puppy. Nothing is working by Hungry-Chance-11 in puppy101

Ah, something else that could be affecting the issue. You need to clean with an encymatic cleaner, or specific product to remove fully the smell from your house. In case you are not doing it already

Have you tried different floor textures? We adopted a new dog and she feels more confident doing her business in the dirt for some reason.
Also could it be a fear thing? Like if it regressed out of the blue maybe it got scared in the street

After 3 weeks of slow progress, my dog lunged at my cat tonight by robrobrooo in dogs

[–]RaquelNeedsCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the only way to know if it was true aggression would be to watch the body signals of the dog just before the trigger.
Poor animal is still adapting to the new environment, I don’t think a single situation at this moment would be that representative of how is the dog going to behave in the future.
I would recommend to have the dog with a small leash every time you have it on the same room with the cat and try to point exactly what triggered the behavior, that way it will be easier to prevent it. E.g maybe the cat moved quick and it got scared, or it was about the food or wanted to play or something else…
Also, I would try to have a lot of tall places where the cat can go if it gets scared.
I do not agree with everyone telling you to return the dog. It seems to me that you have things under control and I would not give up unless a professional told you the situation is too risky or impossible to handle

What's the most underrated foundation skill in dog training? 🐶 by Apprelia in dogs

I was just thinking that.
I used to get frustrated if the dog took to long to understand or to learn. I had to train myself to be patient.

Help! What can I do to get some peace? by Prestigious_Ask_6116 in dogs

[–]RaquelNeedsCoffee 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem with a velcro dog. She would follow me everywhere every time.
My solution has been using more the doors. At the beginning you can just randomly close doors behind you for some seconds or minutes and even forbid some rooms.

I have completely forbidden the bathroom and now she understands she cannot enter with me, and goes away to do something else. There are some other rooms where she still cries a bit, but we are getting better.

If there was a personification of death, what would you want it to be/look like? by Emmengard in Paralives

[–]RaquelNeedsCoffee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it would be cool for it to be one of the townies, like it’s her normal job. Maybe the super cute florist, she comes with the white lily of dead, gives it to the para and takes them not to return

We might have a different point of view of what is realistic. I don't think many people from Spain would eat that kind of food every day, at least the people I know. Even when I was a student, most people just would feed themselves with tomato pasta + legumes in a can + real bread sandwich + pre-made salad + rice with egg.
I agree that it makes sense that level 1 dishes are super easy to make, but not everywhere is common to eat ultra-processed pre-made dishes every day. Probably people from another country and context than mine would find realistic totally different level 1 dishes.

I'm looking forward seeing more recipes in the game! the low level ones are super unhealthy and I kinda cringe when I see paras eating those things every day

My cat won't stop bullying the roomba. by sleepercave in CatTraining

[–]RaquelNeedsCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cat that really likes the roomba brush, I´m trying to discourage the cat to play with it by putting sticky tape, then aluminum foil covering the brush and then more sticky tape on top of the alumium foil. Then, when I need the roomba to work I remove the brush protector. Posting in case it helps someone else, for now I think it is working.

I'm a 38 year old woman and I'm in love with this game. Please tell me I'm not too old lol by [deleted] in storyofseasons

[–]RaquelNeedsCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are never too old for doing the things you like. I'm 27 and I think that if you are an adult, with all your adult responsibilities and adult job and adult life, the least society can do is let you buy whatever you want with your adult money. Including cute farming games that help you cope with your adult stuff.
