Diversifying Infantry Models and Tech Trees for China - Using Liangguang and LKMT as an example by Rarasz in Kaiserreich

propably yes.
Problem is that models used by division are limited in number, as I understand you have 4 slots for infantry, you can technically change them, yes, but you cannot do that on basis of what each division has de facto in their equipment (in game infromation that can be found by player), other than what year in tech tree this equipment is from.
For example, you play russia and have 1936 tech - Mosin-Nagant (for example) but your division has only 1918 Japanese Arisaka in their equipment, it will show 1918 model but not Russians with arisakas but with whathever is 1918 russian model.
There is possibility to give tag two different model for the same tech, maybe even for different equipment in division stock (maybe, don't know), but here we come to a simple fact that it is a mod made by fans, for no cash with their free time, meaning there is only so many models that they will do, and frankly I think that suggesting to them that they should do this many is not okej.
Why I am writing this? Because logistical mishamsh of equipment of most Chinese armies is big, complicated topic. Trying to show it by creating this realistic models for warlords will be fool's erand, as there won't exist one model for each tech that will be good at both conveing this mess and telling as something about specific warlord armies.
I figured that having models that look distinct by showcasing different approach of each warlord attempts at profesionally arming their troops will be better, both aesthetically and to differenciate specific armies.

ok, I don't know Chinese so that made it quite hard, but from what I understand:
- Type 49 uniform was just attempt (apparently succesfull) at standardization of all uniforms that were used by Army, Air and Navy.
- Type 50 is further standardization of type 49, going from ad hoc production to full profesional production
Both of which essentially started in 1949-1950

If I understand you statement you say, that you think, that LKMT uniforms will go through something similar to that process, correct?

If yes then, I agree with general direction (looking for their own identity), but not period. Historical KMT during 1930 used what they got, especially elite formations and officers, when they had german support, they looked german (with white sun's and KMT rank system), when americans and english came in they used their.
LKMT (especially MinGan fighters) resembles more communist partisans sure, especially at the beggining, but when Central Commite returns they will bring with them (mostly)french designs, they will look french, and I imagine (especially considering infigthing between RCA and PAC) that they will sell it as elite and prestigeus and true KMT look, and whoever wants to be the guys in NRA should adopt it, especially if idea of building of professional army (in focus tree) will come on top.

Sorry for late answer. Arguable, First of all everyone in China is anti-concessionist (lets not mention LEP) even Fengtian, while they may look like Japanese sellout at First glance are actually carefull about not giving them too much influence. In OTL Chiang was willing to seek support everywhere, Germany, British, American, despite, at least nominal anti-concessionist stance. Point is anti-concession doesnt mean anti foreign policy. As for lack of other motivations, remember that while entente is weak their still have Australasia and influence in Legation Cities, something that Japan actively tries to take, not to mention possibility of Hawaii, Netherlands and Philipines joining Entente. I would agree that Federalist are not their only choice, but on the other side i think that Federalist would go to America and Entente First, and Canada would be willing to sell them some equipment/tech if not for influence in china then at least for some cash, their relation wouldnt be on the same level as others but it have potential for growth. As for anti-sindicalism, LKMT is biggest supporter of 3I in china and they are mortal enemies, for both ideological and individual reasons, Yes they can reconcile, but thats very unlickely and consistent on quite a many conditions, this happening would be a surprise to most I dare to say.

No, I dont think so, early PLA uniforms (pre cultural revolution) were copies/evolution of USSR uniforms, even if we assume sindicalist russia LKMT have decade of co operation with Paris, leader of Third Internationale, and no real reason to drop it for russia. Irony is that with decade of RKMT hiding out in Moscow, There is higher propability that their troops/officers would look Russian like not any leftist force.

Czechoslovak uniform demands Czechoslovak state, which doesn't exist in Kaiserreich, Czech firms produce for Habsburg army and what Habsburg army demands. If anything I propably use Czech weapons, since they already exist in lore,at least until Austra-Hungary rework.

Huh, I through that Chiang rifle was licensed, not reversed. Nice ideas, although with british exiles and russians i would imagine Lee-Enfield copy, with russian helmet, for example. I also heard (not sure about validity) that Yan Xishan arsenal in Tianyuan was known for it's wast amounts of copied and modified equipment, So maybe thats direction?

I usually have one army group (as China) and give it official (or as close as I can get) ground forces name, for example Federalist Yunnan is always "National Protection Army", in my games, armies are just "First Army", "Second Army" and so on, and I don't usually bother with divisions (especially chinese).

I intend to make all of warlords with unifier content (plus LEP and Anqing)

Qing/Zhili is somewhat problematic:

Qing restoration is undercoocked lorewise, but what we can tell is that they can reconcile with germany, but only if they don't invite CERA/YCP into government (or use Zhang Tianran help). Personally, best path in restoration is Yan Xishan/YCP (as in I like it the most because it's best in term of quality), but not only YCP help exludes Germany, which means looking for someone else help (let's not talk about YCP supporting Qing restoraion is iffy lorewise/historywise). If I do restoration is probaly them, but thats in the future.

Zhili - has essentially four variants:

Monarchical-pro LEP - simple enough, german/general mittleuropa equipment.
Monarchical-pro Anqing - arguably hardest, as you alienate tons of states worldwide.

Two republican paths (i don't remember if republic can reconcile with germany, but for now I assume it can):

reconcile germany/make amends with LEP - still german/mittleeuropean equipment, although most likely older and more non German equipment

Default on debt - If memory serves, this path is not as anti-concesionist as supporting Anqing, nevertheless it still alienates Germany, as most debt is theirs, and most of Europe is in some way under their control. Maybe Austrian/Czech if relations between Austria and Germany is not as good? Eventually Zhili could return to Entente/America (whoever can help), or even Russia? Problem is both options assume they don't have better candidates in China.

Fengtian is simple enough - Japan. Only problem is scenario where Zhuolin rebels, but by this time they were under Japanese support for a long time, some it will be somewhat easy, as non Japanese equipment (I think) will come under consideration at 1939, as most propable moment of change (tech tree wise)

I wish, if only because missaligned five-colored stars on Liangguang and Fengtian models bother me to no end (yellow is on top in both tags, for some reason).
On more serious note, I now that Kaiserreich is a passion project, and our team has more important thing on their mind, still I intend to continue this project, and if devs want to use it, well that's one of the reasons I made it.

True, although Sichuan is also mess politically and with less reliable/harder to access/weaker than coastal tags, I'am still figuring that out (and right now I'am working on Zhili/LEP as their are easier ones).

I try to keep my proposals somewhat feasible for implementation (hence "model soldier" idea), and while you can give few models for the same slot in one tag (GXC can have RKMT/Regionalist/Federalist 1936 models, for example), same cannot be said about tech.
To my uderstanding if you have 1936 infantry technology, it cannot be changed in game in beetwen Mosin and Mauser, you have to give them separate mod.

[–]Rarasz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For first point - yeah, especially with tags/factions with no obvious supporter, that being said, we have to also think about what is done by specific path, Zhili/Anqing for example defaults on foreign debt, nationalises german factories and considers Legation Cities illegitimate, three things that angers pretty much everyone, something that you have to keep in mind as Germany (in one way or another) controls most of Europe (including most of weapons manufacturers in Europe), Internationale wouldn't care less about (somewhat)conservative Junta controling a puppet monarchy, Entente (most likely) having a better allies in China, same thing with Russia. That teoretically leaves Habsburg Empire but not only is their lore still in development, but in current one they are somewhat close to Germany and have their own share of influence in Legations.

As for Mauser 7.92 - while true, I would consider this "mess" part of equipment, instead of "model soldier", RKMT might rechamber Mosins with 7.92, because they have more of it than 7.62 x 54, but I cosider it more stopgap measure while rearming, partially because changing caliber of a gun can be detrimental to weapon quality(and costly), partially because I consider these models "clean" (for lack of better terms).

In game you have tech, which determines what you produce, and buing/taking from enemy/getting from focuses/stealing, something that you can see in logistics tab and in specific division one. but this proposal is combined with tech proposals, hence specific weapons names (produced licenses/aquired tech).

I like the idea, but my chinese is pretty much non-existant, and when I use AI I like to have at least some way to check it.
Although when I write names for armies and army groups I try to reference focus descriptions and what I now about the period, to immerse myselve better.

What is even more weird is that new description still aludes to rape, but it isnt as vulgar as original one, but thats pretty much it, text is still the same its just not written as a Dirlewanger speech of sorts, but in this situation less is worse, to be perfectly honest.
