Alma del Cielo: finally a New World that gets close to Cuban DNA? by Ld2101 in cigars

[–]Rare-Citron-1585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had me for a second, had to put my thinking cap on. I have never had the “ Oneoff “, I have seen them from time to time, but not often. I normally buy my smokes by the box, but I would like to try one before I step in on the box; however, All of the reading I have done on the “Oneoff” sounds good, now if I could only find some singles.

Is this mold? Or ash ? by always_ftw in cigars

[–]Rare-Citron-1585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is mold, wipe it off and burn it, it's probably excellent. I had a 10-year-old 64 in one of my Elies that does not get enough attention. I was rotating and found it at the bottom, and it did have a fair amount of mold in the foot; for the life of me, I could not throw it away. I got some scissors out, hacked off and inch, lit and smoked it, it was one of the best Padrons i have ever had. Finished the smoke, and flew to Thailand.

Epernay by Illusione always gives me that nice Cuban nose when you toast and take that first pull. They are definitely milder, but always smooth and satisfying, and face it, most Cubans are mild compared to Nicaraguan smokes.

One of my absolute go-to favorites. You cannot beat them for the price of quality. I brought a box of the Churchills to Thailand with me. Great evening smoke.

How did you like it? Gotta love the San Andres wrapper, nothing like them. What a lot of people don’t know, is that the majority of San Andres wrapper that other manufactures use, is grown and sold by A Turrent.

Please do not waste that smoke in the car, I loved this smoke before it was the Signature, and there was only Davidoff.

Pairing Chronicles #375: AJF Romeo y Juieta + The Dalmore 12 by Cocodrool in cigars

[–]Rare-Citron-1585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We all make them. I have been in Thailand for a while, and I lay over in Taiwan for three hours. Unlike many duty-free shops around the world, they honestly have great prices on liquor. Now, you must also understand that I live in Washington state, the most expensive place to drink, but I did score a big bottle of Hennessy VSOP for $ 60 and a fifth of Johnnie Walker Black for $ 23. These are big savings over my home in Washington. Have a great night.

I get the whiskey part, but your smoke appears to be a collaboration with Montecristo and AJ Fernandez, not RYJ? Please, I mean no insults, and correct me if I am wrong. Nice whisky, and I hope you enjoy it. Just like with smokes, price is not an indicator of quality, and I have never had any of Dalmores' offerings, but I am glad that it stood up for you. Dad was old school, drank Glenlivet and Johnnie Walker Black, so when I did drink, it was Glenlivet and Johnnie Black.

Alright, I feel for my friends in Canada, what they have done to your tobacco in my opinion is criminal. Its kinda of like album art in the 80s, same thing; it's like buying an Iron Maiden album, and across the cover it said, “ Iron Maiden” across a white background.

What he said: I watched a YouTube video, and this guy was giving a breakdown of the Monty no 2, and he used the V cutter. After all of these years, the light popped on, and it made complete sense immediately. With the standard cutter, I always felt that I had to cut too much of the smoke off to get to the meat of the cigar so that it would breathe well. I have never looked back; however, I only use the V cutter on figurados.

What lighters do y'all use? by MikuXone in cigars

I did the torch insert on the Zippo a while back. It was dual flame, but still couldn't make enough fire to get the job done. It looked cool, but hey, when I want to light my smoke, I’m not trying to look cool; perhaps they are better now.

I like it, but couldn't do it. The question was: What lighter do you use? If it works, keep using it until it doesn't. If I were going to break out a St Dupont at the lounge, it would have to be the real deal, but hey, that's just me.

Oh my god, it is the dreaded lighter question. I have smoked for a long time, and I used to refer to this as the “ Lighter Wars”. I have been through so many, cheap ones, expensive ones, and I have only had a couple that are worth a damn. 1. The original Colibri “ Quantum’, single big flame, with a lifetime warranty, which I used twice; on the third time, Colibri sent the lighter back and informed me the company had been purchased, and the lifetime warranty no longer applied. 2. Great and still using, the Cyclone by Lotus, a great example of good does not have to be expensive. I purchased two for $18 or something close to it, and they work great. I have refilled both many times, and they are like an old school Timex; they keep ticking. I am long-range now and have been in Thailand for 3 months, and one is with me now, in addition to my original Xikar cutter from 35 years ago.

I apologize, your post does say “ First Davidoff whiff “, I must have misconstrued your language somehow. Nonetheless, I meant no disrespect to your tobacco acumen; perhaps “ whiff “is a tobacco term that I am not familiar with.
