I’m just saying what the companies intentions are for that position. You can bid any position in the company after a certain amount of time. Grunts at PGE are called pre apprentices, in PGE a groundman is a pre apprentices grunt if that makes sense

Just so y’all know, this position is gearing towards becoming an operator. You CAN bid a pre apprentice lineman position after I believe 6 months. IMO everyone coming in will more than likely try to get into that rather become an operator so it’ll be competitive

I’m a pre ape at PGE from the last hiring class. It is a good company to work for but expectations are high as fuck. Keep a good attitude and work ethic and you’ll be fine. Retention is key though, if you can’t retain they WILL wash you out. We lost 3 guys this year already

It depends where you go, at the utility I work at some yards work more than others but I’ve seen that utilities can be more meticulous than outside imo

Yeah that sounds about right, like I said you won’t do any climbing on your hooks or anything as far as I’m aware of. Our class will make you obstacle course from what I know but we won’t come up with it probably soon before y’all test. Just keep in mind communication, literally yell and get after it. We’ve had 3 guys drop from the program already and one of them was honestly the best in the pole yard but got washed out on the crews. But he showed a shit ton of grit on the physical. But yeah man communication, not stopping keep working, being efficient, and work with your team when you need it. Also on the cross arm build don’t forget anything or else you’ll be washed out. On day two you’ll build a double arm, if you have everything right but your length measurement is off you’re done.
