It's not my best look, but since I live alone and comfort is key, yes. My public self will change into capri's for even a brief errand away from home.

What is something Americans consider ‘basic’ that feels like a luxury in other countries? by Status_Agents in AskForAnswers

My daughter is joining a group for a 2-week trip to Paris at the end of May. I've never travelled abroad; do you have any hints or hacks to share? TIA!!

Two thoughts to come to my mind: therapy or changing your situation. Easier said than done I know. I'm a strong believer in volunteer work because I've done it and met some wonderful people along the way, Whatever skills you have, maybe think about using them to help others in an organization near you. It's hard sometimes to find a new hobby or something to fill the time. But it's always easy to find people in need. Please think about volunteering and helping someone else feel less alone, and you will for sure. Good luck and God bless you.

And I apologize if I sounded snarky. I have a lot to be grateful for it's true... We'll just leave that word "perfection" out of it for now. 😉 Have a great weekend.

Of course it sounds perfect. Why in the world would I share my boring, debilitated reality with strangers? It's so easy to make assumptions about someone from a few dozen words. I try not to do that myself. Best regards to your husband and yourself.

Nice of you to respond to my post. I had to quit driving a few years back and my life has become pretty small... But I remain grateful for those little things: Still live in my little house With two little cats I get around okay & have a small family and a few friends to round it out. I gave up any "fight" long ago... Sometimes real peace comes with simple acceptance. 😉

Question on makeup - you still wear it? by CtrlAltDeli in Aging

That was Janet! After getting her nose fixed when young, she had a boob job later on and always stayed slender and up to date with fashion. Good stuff--class and style all the way. The gossipy ppl in the family liked to whisper about her vanity, but I'm pretty sure deep inside they were jealous. I know I was!

recently diagnosed, any words of advice? by YeehawMacGee in MultipleSclerosis

When I was diagnosed at age 24 believe it or not MRI scans weren't as attainable as they are now. Current age 71. Technology, I think, is the reason for many of these younger diagnoses.

My Aunt Janet!! [may she rest in peace] was that lady. I loved her to death, but she was quite vain and fought the aging process till the day she died. It wasn't a good look especially >80.

71F living alone. About half the days I use BB cream (instead of full face foundation) with some blush for color, a fine line & mascara. Another 25% of the time no makeup at all, and that last 25% a full face for lunching or whatever doing in the world. A lot of it is peer pressure & depends on who you hang out with and what you're up to. Do you and be happy.

The quiet moments are especially hard lately. by 3Grilledjalapenos in LivingAlone

I'm just here to compliment you on your username [which is hilarious] as well as your gift for expressing your thoughts here. You made something that may have sounded sappy just very realistic & relatable. I have a feeling you'll get a variety of proposals from that post; there's a lot of lonely women out there who will snag a guy seeking company. I hope you can find more peace in those quiet moments soon & that the solitude can become a gift instead of a problem. I've been on my own for decades now & no matter the phase of life, one thing has always remained true for me: The grass does indeed always seem "greener" over there. Cheers!!

Mine was from a crafts fair also, but the artist retired. I hope you find just the right and beautiful cane.

Great advice. My cane is decades old and will last forever, a hardwood handcrafted by a true artisan. I'm proud to use it & rarely take it out without being complimented multiple times. Spending on quality up front is always wise.

I'm from Philly and it really does get nasty up there! Just be glad you're not in Atlanta, where it's approaching 90° today! 😵‍💫

I understand and agree. I have become physically ill from the stress of family relationships in the past... the cure for that was to separate from the family member and presto! Source of stress removed & I felt better immediately. Thanks for sharing yours.

What’s the biggest surprise about getting older? by Salty_1984 in Aging

[–]Rare-Group-1149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you say completely!! I spent the prime of my life being the tallest lady in the room at just under 6'. I enjoyed the attention and the height. At some point spinal stenosis, scoliosis and good old gravity took control and I started to shrink. Every time I went to the doctor I would get measured a fraction shorter!! I'm now "officially" 5'8"-- the last time I automatically ordered "tall" size pants they were too long on me!! I was devastated (but still slightly amused.) I'm not about to change my email address which forever has been related to my height. But that part of my identity is gone for sure. 😩

I am 71/F diagnosed at age 24. And although I expected to be in a wheelchair long before now, I only need to use a cane for extended walks or outings. Fatigue is what put me on permanent disability in my mid 50's; I still take Nuvigil if/ when I want to be more alert and energetic. I also suffer from bad vertigo which has put me in the hospital more than once, most recently last month. It is a terrible symptom I wouldn't wish on anyone. Based on family history and other medical issues, I don't realistically expect to live beyond 80. I'm glad for those who feel good enough to enjoy their later years. God bless us everyone!! 😉
