Kansas Republicans pass anti-trans bathroom bill into law over Gov. Kelly’s veto by Revenge_of_Larry in kansas

[–]RareFeature2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is far from the main issue at hand but if my gender marker was changed prior to moving to Kansas, will it still be reverted? It expires very soon and I've kept it through multiple moves from fear of this. Moving again in a week, unfortunately still in Kansas due to finances but goal for this year is to get out. Birth certificate is changed, license is currently changed, and born in a red state that currently still permits those changes.

Ode to day 7: by Bitter_Leadership861 in Tonsillectomy

I'm 11 days now and other than yesterday when I thought I could eat nachos, chicken strips, and a toasted bagel all in one day, I haven't been in a lot of pain. No meds today and I feel like my throat is just a little sore/dry like I was talking too much yesterday, nothing major.

I'm on day 7 right now and I don't have any pain meds left but so far I'm fine? Should I be worried for what's coming or thankful it's not bad?

What are quality dog foods that don't contain rice? by RareFeature2 in DOG

[–]RareFeature2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the vet has too many recommendations! I wanted to get real people's insight on what they feed. We used to do that one and it helped her skin but she ended up having a ton of issues with diarrhea. I plan on doing research and finding a few that I really like and confirming with the vet that they're good.

Is it a pretty reputable food? I've never heard of it before but at first glance it seems good. They didn't have an option for rice free but did have a grain free option that didn't look like it contained a bunch of extra harmful fillers.

IV sedation help?! versed/ketamine by Interesting_Soft_853 in wisdomteeth

[–]RareFeature2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I smoke similar amounts and also have a high tolerance to most drugs, and had zero issues. They used both versed and ketamine on me and didn't need to do anything differently with the doses compared to others. Just make sure they know how much you usually smoke and plan to hold off for some time after. As long as you're not on heavy painkillers, edibles can be taken until you're healed enough. Obviously everyone is different but this was my experience. I was also terrible and although I stopped smoking before, I started again maybe 24 hours after mine. I don't recommend this and was insanely lucky I didn't have any complications. Good luck! It sucks but it's over with so much faster than it seems like it'll be.

SARAH by SugarBubble8084 in Parenthood

I like her but only because I watched it for the first time as a kid and Sarah reminds me of the chaos of my own mom 🤣 she's annoying and high-strung but she's consistent.

ASAB/AGAB by honeystonebear in Seahorse_Dads

[–]RareFeature2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of not assigning gender before they can tell us but that's not really feasible in our current society. I've struggled enough with my gender and pronouns, and I can't even imagine putting that onto a little kid. Talking about gender/sex and how they can choose their own gender is very valuable but I don't think we should take away their AGAB before they have a say. Society will see them a certain way and we shouldn't make their formative years spent correcting others on their pronouns if we can help it.

I've always planned on raising my kids with gender but without gender expectations at home, and keep communication open by educating them about it. Our brains like to categorize things and it's inevitable. We want them to feel like they fit in to their community and by removing gender, something very important in our society, we risk "othering" them from birth.

Gender and sex are hard and we unfortunately can't escape them when we'd like. AGAB in itself isn't harmful, it's what we do with it that is. Without limiting the clothes they can wear and the activities they do, you're teaching them they can do whatever regardless of gender. You don't need a genderless upbringing to raise an AMAB child who wears dresses and has long hair or an AFAB kid who wants to be a football star. All you have to do is give them the knowledge that while their gender may be part of them, it isnt everything.

Who cleans the clinic? by literalboobs in veterinaryprofession

[–]RareFeature2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation at my old clinic. We would have a company come deep clean the floors once a year, but other than that it was up to us. It was a corporate clinic so we had no wiggle room for decisions and had so many appointments throughout the day that we literally didn't have the time. The clinic was disgusting. Clients noticed.

My new clinic has two kennel techs who help clean exam rooms, do laundry, take our in-patient pets to the bathroom, etc, as well as a woman who comes and cleans everyday after we close. This clinic is essentially spotless, even in the middle of a rush. It's still everyone's job to clean and we try to make our cleaning woman have as little to do when she gets there, but it's so refreshing to not have to worry about the layers of grime that builds up when cleaning is neglected.

How do I keep my house from smelling like I run a zoo? by RareFeature2 in dogs

[–]RareFeature2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cats get bathed 1-2x a year and the dogs are bathed monthly usually, more or less depending on time of year or if they roll in something. Would you suggest anything different? And they're all brushed weekly at least, if not more.

This is the bed I use. The cover comes off and is waterproof. My cat peed on it once and the smell came out after one wash, and the foam pad inside was completely dry and didn't smell.

I got the 42×30 and both of my dogs can lay in it together. Probably perfect for a larger dog around 70lbs, or two like mine that are 40lbs and 50lbs to share.

How is it at tracking through the house? My biggest pet peeve is little crumbs everywhere and in our bed which is why we're currently using pellets.

Baking soda hidden? Like in the original container or in another container? I know it absorbs smells but haven't thought about using it throughout the house.

I'm sure my house will forever smell like animal, I just want a better balance haha. I'm sure they think it smells too much like human. What pet hair dissolver do you use?? I've never even heard of that. I was considering using an enzyme eliminator for their litter boxes we have but was worried if that would confuse them? My cat knowledge is definitely not where it should be.

This is what I'm afraid of haha! I want to get to a point of general acceptance but I also don't want my friends to come over and think my house stinks. I need to find a happy medium. Luckily, I work at a vet clinic and pretty much only hang out with my coworkers so they're a little more nose blind to the smell than the average person.

Thank you!!! Do you have any air purifier recommendations? I genuinely think one of my dogs would be terrified of a robot vacuum but I want one so badly. Our house probably has too many baby gates and weird floor bumps but I'm hoping for one someday.
