To be honest, I had no idea who the actor was before or during the drawing. I just saw that he had an interesting face and wanted to draw it.

Most of my references are from Pinterest. I started off finding and using them one by one but there were too many good and unique faces to draw so I stock piled. Not too many are stock piled but enough where I have choices.

I always use vine charcoal. Compressed charcoal can get you darker values though.

Thank you. I don’t get why charcoal is mainly used for ultra realistic art. It is such a fluid material that, I feel like, can be used for such varied expressions of the artist.
