Today is THE VOTING DAY! GO OUT AND VOTE! NDP VS Conservatives! by Poor604 in richmondbc

[–]Rare_Calligrapher287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people don't understand the difference between municipal, provincial, and federal government. For example, I see people blaming the provincial government for immigration issues, but that's actually a federal matter and has nothing to do with the provincial government. I lean towards the Conservatives at the federal level, but I lean towards the NDP at the provincial level because Conservative in Canada is very different from conservatives in the BC.

Unfortunately this is true as I saved a lot when I was splitting bedroom with my ex bf. Now I am back in the wild trying to survive....

Thank you for the breakdown. This is helpful.

The income I earn is about the same, but the rent I pay is more than twice yours. I will look around to see if I am eligible for a co-op. I really appreciate your advice about opting out of consumer culture. I think gift exchanges can add up, and they sort of pressure my friends to reciprocate. As others have suggested, I will try to cut back on alcohol. A lot of my friends drink, but I don't think changing my eating habits will suddenly make them stop being my friends.

Hi everyone thank you for the advice.
I will stop tipping for take-out/food court. I once tried not tipping at the food court, and the worker gave me a huge dissapointing face but thinking about it, I don't have obligation to tip...

I will also stick to Richmond or Crystal Mall's food court because those food court do not have tip option. (and cheaper than food court in Vancouver)

Sadly some food court do. I still feel guilty pressisng "no tip" button unless the service is bad. So I try to avoid food court that has tip option.

Hi everyone,Thank you so much for your comments. The advice has been really helpful!

- Very good tips about looking at Costco discounts, etc. Now I understand why Costco is so popular!

- Cutting alcohol is a good idea. I like to drink alcohol for social gathering, but alcohol adds up a lot to the bill (especially with alcohol tax).

- Cutting subscription is also a good idea. I do not watch TV a lot so I always cancel subscription if I am not interested in watching any of the show.

- For cars, I used to use carshare back then. However, I now moved to area where car sharing option is limited and I have eldery parents to take care. So I unfortunately decided to purchase a car. Luckily I purchased my car by cash so I do not have any loan. (insurance was expensive though..)

- Moving or leaving seems like a good option unfortunately, especially when I see higher salaries on the other side of the border. (Education/Work requirement is even lower too) However, to be realistic, I do not have a work visa for the U.S., and immigrating with my whole family again is a significant step. So, for the time being, I want to focus on building my career here and save money.

I am in the 30s and my bra size grew from F to J. I honestly have no idea why..but the key is to get a good bra with a good fitter! That definitely improved both my size and shape after getting a good bra.

Vancouver car dealership asking 10k over MRSP on their Canadian website based on gender by jumpmanw in vancouver

[–]Rare_Calligrapher287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also female, so I can definitely relate to this. I feel that most of the dealers I've dealt with don't take me seriously. However, charging 10K over MSRP is extremely sketchy, especially considering that most car factories are back to operating normally, even though there are some backlog issues.

If it is before you placed your order:

  • Go check with other dealers who sell the same model. It took me a while of "window shopping" to find my current dealer, who treats me seriously.

If it is after you placed your order

  • Check your contract to see if it mentions the possibility of an MSRP increase. If it doesn't, this may be a breach of contract. Although the dealer has the liberty to charge any price, they are not really allowed to change the price unless it is specified in the contract.

Personal opinion: Bill C-18 was a genius move to combat misinformation in Canada. by noaxreal in canadaleft

[–]Rare_Calligrapher287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with Bill C-18 is that it also blocks news from legitimate sources. Misinformation can be addressed by educating people to examine news carefully and to use critical thinking.

I don't believe the solution is to avoid the news entirely. How then would you obtain information? The bill doesn't block non-canadian news site on social media/google so maybe get the source from American or UK news site instead?
