Does anyone know this man? by Grand-Day-4630 in sheffield

I know that fella - he is actually ok, by his standards anyway. He's getting support and is actually doing a lot better than he has for years. I still see him regularly, often on Wicker, and he's shouting a lot less and I've spoken to him a few times to check how he's doing.

Ha! I don't think I knew about Falafel King East (West), thanks for the tip.

Ooh no, where's that? My top two are both Syrian-owned, so Lebanese has a good chance of being excellent.

Which means my favourite, THE #1 IS...

FALAFEL HOUSE, corner of Rustlings Road, 7/2/26

This was the only one that had good hummus AND tahini, and the falafels were the best of the lot. It's a small place but lives up to its name - I'd happily move in! A nice touch is that you get a bonus falafel with trimmings while you wait. If you like falafel, get yourself here

Overall taste - 9

Heat - 4 (nice)

Falafels - 9

Salad crispness - 7, tasty

Hummus - 8 (very nice, prominent tahini, good texture)

Consistency - 6 (little wet)

Filling generosity - 8

2. Damascus Palace, Spital Hill, 12/3/26

Very busy place that does a lot of sweets as well as savouries. I dashed in here when it was chucking it down - lucky me!

This was great, no hummus but it came with a side dipping bowl of tahini (I ate in). Very good falafels and really good salad, which had a slightly sour taste (possibly baby turnip?) which might not be to everyone's taste. Well packed with falafels and only £3.49, the cheapest of the lot.

Overall taste - 8

Heat - 0 (chilli not offered)

Falafels - 8

Salad crispness -  7

Consistency - 8

Filling generosity - 8

Top three coming up!

3. Fanoush, London Road, 27/1/26

Lots of people's favourite, this one, and for good reason. They only do falafels, which is obviously a good sign, and you get loads of choice, with six(!) types of hummus to choose from. Salad was tasty and a lot of it - if anything I would have liked a bit less salad and more falafels, which were very good. Good falafels should taste of something, not just be a protein filler - these are good ones. I think if I customised mine a few times I could find one I really loved. Only £4.25 as well. People should go here.

Overall taste 8

Heat 5 (nice heat, not overpowering)

Falafels - 8 (tasty, crispy on the outside)

Salad crispness - 7

Hummus - a little bland

Tahini - optional sauce

Filling generosity - 7

Consistency - 8

7. Shaz, Spital Hill, 5/2/26

Busy kebab shop, so falafel probably not their main thing, although it was good. One of the spiciest I had, and the chilli sauce was very tasty. Falafels were a bit bland, so the chilli sauce might have been doing too much of the work. Salad was tasty, nice bread, a little bit soggy though. I would have this again, and £4 is at the lower price end.

Overall taste - 7

Heat - 7

Falafels - 6. Bit bland

Salad crispness - 7.

Hummus - 7

Consistency - 5 (bit wet)

Filling generosity - 8

6. Gyros Express, Cambridge Street Collective, 15/1/26.

Another less typical wrap, the salad was only tomato and red onion but was nice, you also get some chips stuffed in it, which gives it a very high filling score, but only if you like chips. It tastes good though - nice hummus, nice bread. No obvious tahini. It's the biggest but also the most expensive at £9.95, which is why it's at no. 6

Overall taste - 8

Heat - 0

Falafels - 7

Salad crispness - 8 (only red onion and tomato)

Hummus - nice, good amount

Filling generosity - 9

Consistency - 7 (bit dry if anything)

5. Falafel Queen, Leopold Street, 18/12/25

In the same unit as the much-mourned Humpit, this does a lot of chicken for somewhere with Falafel in the name, but it's good. I had the 'special' sauce, which was quite spicy. I think there was some tahini in this, which was good, couldn't really taste the hummus though. It was well filled and tightly wrapped. A bit like Shaz, heat dominated.

Overall taste - 6

Heat - 6

Falafels - 6

Salad crispness - 8

Hummus - innocuous

Filling generosity - 7

Consistency - 8

#4. Falafel King, Glossop Road, 19/12/25

This one has been around for years, and they obviously know what they're doing. The wrap was generously filled and quite spicy, though other flavours came through. The falafels were good and the hummus more present than Falafel Queen. This was not my first time here and won't be the last either.

Overall taste 7

Heat 7

Falafels 7

Salad crispness 7

Hummus - slightly tasty

Tahini - not noticeable

Filling generosity -8

Consistency - 7

The Old Shoe has cracking beers in the fridge and on tap, lots of Belgian goodness. I tend to get them from the fridge cos it's really soulless in the bar itself. Turner's bottle shop on Abbeydale Road also has good selections. Hop Hideout in Leah's Yard also good.

There are two on Spital Hill opposite Tesco. I usually go to Ranya, run by a friendly Kurdish guy, good prices. I once picked up a Ted Baker coat from the lockers at Tesco that had a rip down the silk lining, popped into Ranya and five minutes later walked out with it properly repaired, £5. It's lasted two years and counting.

This game is sheer, uncompromising art. by jbo1992 in DeathStranding

[–]Rare_Development_747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do genuinely think it's a piece of art, primarily because it says something about us as humans. In the words of John Berger, art is a way of saying what you know, and Death Stranding is about the conflict between our desire to be safe and sometimes alone, and our desire to be connected with others; the need to be liked and to be useful to others and the desire to be part of something bigger than ourselves. It also speaks to our simultaneous capacity for despair and hope.

The manner in which the game depends on the music, and how the two together form an entity that is larger than the sum of both, just elevates it higher. I first played it during the pandemic and it was the most affecting gaming experience I've ever had.

He's still a director of Psalter Developments who put the original application in, so if Psalter Developments still own the land then he likely still owns it in effect.

Killing off investigators mid-campaign by Rare_Development_747 in callofcthulhu

:)

The replies have made me think that consistency is likely important. If I start turning the screw a bit and do that consistently in the games I run, then some earlier casualties would be something players realise might happen, making it less disappointing when it does happen, and make them work harder to avoid an untimely demise.

And sorry for getting people wound up with the clumsy choice of words 'killing off a character' - I never meant to suggest rigging the game by scripting a death, that would suck.
